Alpacas. Peru has 80% of this cute animal's world population!
Ruins, ruins, ruins. Everyone knows Machu Picchu but there are thousands of (pre) Inka sites in PeruWeaving of colorful textiles made from llama, alpaca and sheep woolSnow-capped mountains. There are 37 mountains over 6000m here!Dry. Unless you're exploring the Amazon or the Andes, Peru feels like one big desert.Cuy. Guinea pigs in Peru are considered a delicacy, not pets.Potatoes in all colours and flavoursTuktuks. These riding cans rule the streets, especially in the North.Popcorn on every street corner!Colectivos. We used this cheap, local and crowded way of transport more than in Colombia or Ecuador.Chifa. After slavery was abolished, the Chinese provided cheap labor ... and restaurants.Coca leafs. This plant was holy to the Incas and cures almost everything.Small change is a precious commodity. ATMs dispense 100 soles bills yet no one has change for them.Casinos. Even the smallest town has one.Inka Cola. It's so big that McDo offers menus with this yellow poison instead of the black one.Emergency lights are literally everywhere. And rightly so, since we experienced a few blackouts.Superb buses. Peru is huge, so we usually traveled by comfortable night buses. (Cruz del Sur)Religion and rituals often involving Inti (Father Sun) or Pachamama (Mother Earth).Salchipapas, the most popular fast food here.Peruvian cuisine rocks! We loved the vegan versions of ceviche, causa, chicharrón and lomo saltado.
