Augrabies National Park Day 4
24 октября, Южная Африка ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C
I was up at 6:30am and had, had a pretty good nights sleep although it was above 30°c until just after midnight when a cool breeze picked up for a few minutes .
After Ellie had,had breakfast Trevor popped over to make sure I was ok and then he gave me 2 more tablets. I popped one straight away and then prepared to do the game viewing area again. This time I put a rolled up blanket behind me as a lumbar support.
We left camp at 9:15am and drove through the 3 rivers. The lumbar support and tablets were working and by the time we got to where I turned around yesterday I felt good and we carried on. Our first animal sighting was of giraffe which we couldn’t believe as this is desert. We carried on driving and then saw more giraffe in the dry river beds as we crossed them. Then we drove to our first viewpoint of echo canyon which was spectacular.
We carried on and at the 30km mark we decided to do the smaller 33km loop and pushed on, down the gravel tracks negotiating the lumpy terrain in 4x4 mode. We saw loads of birds, even 2 with a tiny baby no bigger than my thumb, and 2 that looked similar to the Kori- bastard that just disappeared when they ducked down.
Then we saw a bearded dragon who turned his neck black as he was angry with us and on the return loop we saw mountain zebra. It’s unbelievable how any of these animals survive. There’s no shade for the bigger animals and the heat is extreme.
We were surprised how much we enjoyed the game viewing area. The landscape is absolutely spectacular and just keeps changing. They think the black rocks out there are 190 billion years old.
We finally returned home at 2pm and my back seemed much better, I got out of the car and it didn’t hurt.
After lunch of an omelette we popped back over to the shop for ice creams and then headed back to camp and popped over to the pool to get out of the 46°c heat. It wasn’t quite as unbearable as yesterday as there was more of a breeze.
Back at camp it was now 4:30pm and after checking social media for an hour or so and having a mongoose come and join us in camp we started dinner. We had Texan pork steak and vegetables and we cut the fat off the pork rind to leave under the trailer with the trail cam running. Then at 8pm we headed in for the night to watch tv.Читать далее
