  • Getting ready for Halloween

    Megan and I head out for the day. On our way to the train station we pass this house that is totally ready for Halloween. I'm so ready for the holiday, no matter where I end up.

  • Shedd aquarium

    Megan and I started our day by going to the aquarium. These are some of the cool and pretty pictures of the fish.

  • Deep dish pizza

    We went to Giordano's and got the Greek salad and veggie stuffed pizza. The pizza takes 45 minutes to make and we had a seat to keep an eye out on the Cub's game. Much better than my experience with the lobster roll. I was told that there were other places with much better pizza that I would have to go back and try.Read more

  • Navy pier

    We left the John Hancock building and walked over to show me the navy pier. It was closed by the time we got there, but I still get to say I've been to the navy pier. We left hopped on a bus and called it a night. I had a great time in Chicago. What a day!Read more

  • Lincoln zoo

    I get free roadside parking and go to the free zoo. When I get I got to see yet another beautiful view of the city. I was also entertained by the old cars that they turned into food stands.

  • Zoo exhibits

    This wasn't a big zoo, but because the weather was cooler the animals were much more active and visible than what I am accustomed to seeing. I almost got a video of a zebra squealing at a little kid. I got to see the rhinos out and waking around. And I'm usually searching for the wild cats hiding in the shade. Nice free zoo right outside downtown.Read more

    Of coarse I always enjoy the artwork that places choose to put on display. I really enjoyed the flying man and the intense gorilla stare.

  • Snow monkeys

    I made it to this information session on how they are doing research on the monkey's social and intellectual skills. They are teaching the monkeys to use a touch screen. They show live feed at the website and I'm posting videos on my YouTube page.Read more

  • Children's zoo

    I finished at the zoo and went to the kids section. I got to feed the black cow and saw a glimpse into what a milking station looks like.

    I met up with Anton, my host, and he showed me around the very small town and then took me to a park to show me a place he likes to go and relax to look at the water. After that we went to the local bar that he goes to that is 45 minutes away from his house. The strangest thing there that the bartender couldn't answer was that the wooden beams near the ceiling were covered with brad.Read more

  • Starved Rock State Park

    I got to the park and met this family from Minnesota that I ended up hiking the trails with. We didn't go at a fast rate, but it was really fun to be able to talk the whole time and they even offered to host me if they were around when I got into the area.Read more

  • Wooden sculptures

    We got to the Starved Rock resort and they had great big wood carved sculptures. Really cool stuff. We even passed by a wedding taking place outside. I posted the best picture I could get of the bride on instagram. We were stopped from peeking in on the wedding itself.Read more

  • Matthiessen State Park

    I headed to this park that was about 3 miles away and hiked these paths for a while. I didn't have a posse anymore, but it was an interesting park and I'm sure even more beautiful when they have water.Read more

    I return to Anton's home and he says he wants to show me around Illinois some more. We had over to the area that he works and he shows me the memorial they have for Lincoln vs Douglas.

  • Chicago dog

    After talking to Anton for a bit, he decides we don't have to go see Chicago. He settles on taking me to the Harrah's casino in Juliet. I finally taste a version of the famous Chicago dog and I get to watch him spend $5 per spin on a machine.Read more

    I stopped at the Wisconsin visitor center and saw the brochure for this factory tour and of I went. I can't saw it was a super exciting tour, but it was cute and I got free jelly beans.

    I arrived at Sean's house, my host for the night. He was very inquisitive and it was fun answering all his questions about my trip. He is trying to expose his kids to traveling more and I was happy to help with telling about my adventure. We all went out to have a local tour of Appleton and saw the replica of the first cable car. It was nice to be around with their family and get to chat about places and things we want to see.Read more

  • Oshkosh

    I met up with Derek from couchsurfing and he showed me around. We started at the farmers market where I tasted my first cheese curd. It was cold, so it didn't squeak. We checked out the zoo and saw all the kids in costumes, we walked by the lake for a little, and checked out a local church. Then we catch up with his friend, John, and his parents. We all went to a winery and the log cabin bar. I also got to taste my first fried cheese curds. Really fun day with super nice people.Read more

  • EAA Museum

    I went with both Derek and John to the museum. We were able to talk our way in for free because there was so little time left before it closed for the day. It was very popular for the area because it brought unique and interesting planes, not to mention tourism, to the small city. The best part of the whole museum was the children's section. I was also told that it's a pretty cool event to check out one year if I have the chance.Read more

    I headed up to the Marieke Gouda and tasted their dissent types of goudas. The staff was super friendly and there were so many cows, both real and fake. And of coarse cheese. Lots of cheese.

  • Second corn maze

    I went outside to wait until the 1pm milking and saw they had a minion corn maze. Not as fun as the first one since it was partially torn down, but I still got a little lost inside which was fun.

  • Milking cows

    I waited until 1 in the observation deck. I got to see all the cows line up and wait to be milked in this contraption. I stared and stared and I don't know how they did it, but I figured out they were being milked by looking at the pipe on the wall. The very warm milk. Then I went outside and pet some of the calves they had lined up. I found cows try to everything, including my hands.Read more

  • Irvine zoo

    I went to the visitors center and asked for a nice place to hike or jog and they suggested the local park that also had a free zoo. It was such a nice place, even though most of it is under construction. I have never been that close to the few animals they had on display. It was very nice. Then I returned to my host's house for brats and homemade kraut. We also had a fun night of games with their friends. First time I've ever played Wizard, Catchphrase, and that variation of Farkle. Great time.Read more
