First the positive thing: Little Italy was nice and the food was excellent. Haven't seen any Mafia guys though.
In the later afternoon a torrential rainfall started, causing floods and huge problems for the public traffic. Took me 5 hours to get back to my hotel.Les mer

Start of the road trip...and it began with a surprise. For only 15 bucks more I was able to rent a Chevy Camaro! I then drove to Deerfield to shoot a photo of Al Bundy's house (known from the very successful 80's series "Married...with children") and further west to Lake Zurich. :-) :-)Les mer

Just tried a fondue in the Melting Pot restaurant. Like expected the fondue was served as an appetizer only. Additionally they forgot to put Kirsch into the fondue. Guess I stick with (veggie) burgers here in the US. ;-)
Staying in the local Hilton Hotel for 2 nights...found a very cheap offer! Certainly different price than during main season!Les mer

Accidentally found this Star Trek exhibition in the Mall of America. Some great stuff here...but not really worth the 17 bucks entrance fee. However, I don't regret visiting it.

Before I drove to Glenwood (Minnesota) today, I visited the therapeutic salt cave in Minneapolis. 45 minutes relaxing in a comfortable chair, breathing deeply with salty air, and listen to the sound of the sea. I didn't really feel an immediate effect afterwards though. But probably one have to visit this place regularly and more often to experience a change.Les mer

Today's stage led from Bismarck (North Dakota) to Rapid City (South Dakota), where I will stay for the next 2,5 days. My goal is to see Mount Rushmore as well as the former western town Deadwood, known from the Hollywood series.
Pictures are all from the roadtrip between Bismarck and Rapid City (with 6 hours the longest of my entire trip) and show endless streets and landscapes. And some kind of oil refinery.Les mer

Famous not only by from the TV series with the same name, Deadwood is a must-see when being in South Dakota (the series is a must-see too, but be aware, it is quite violent). Having a beer in the "Gem", the famous saloon of bad guy Al Swearengen. Al was some kind of inofficial mayor of Deadwood, always trying to make a fortune...in an absolute ruthless way. Sometimes people who stood in his way were killed by him or his men and to erase every evidence, he paid his men to put them into the local hog house where the bodies "disappeared"...Les mer

Today I headed from Rapid City through the state of Wyoming to Billings, Montana. About one hour before I reached Billings I found (by chance) the war memorial of the "Battle of the Little Bighorn", a place where the native Americans under the command of Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Gall had one of their few big victories over the USA. There were surprisingly also 12 Swiss men fighting on the US side, an unusual high number, compared to other European countries. Of one the guides up there told me that most of the European men have been soldiers back home in Europe and were quite experienced in combat and the life of a soldier.

Today I'm at a very special location: Bozeman, Montana. A place which is well known by every school child in every country on the planet. Pardon me....I meant "WILL BE KNOWN". In the future. Let me explain.
Bozeman is nothing less than the place of the first contact with an alien race, at least when it comes to Star Trek. ;-) An event that changes humanity forever, as we now have proof that we are not alone in the universe. This race, known as Vulcans (you know Spock, right?), will make contakt to the human race on April 5, 2063 after the first successful warp drive test (a faster-than-light engine) by Dr. Zefram Cochrane.

Now, what's funny about this is that a guy is trying to organize a "First Contact Party" in Bozeman on the date mentioned, which is about 48 years in the future. ;-) I'm sure that there are some crazy guys who will attend! For me, this might come too late though.
