Solitude Lake

Solitude Lake

Mountain stream fresh from a snowpack. It was plain tasting and nice and cool. My legs were about done by now.
Solitude Lake

A good number of people do the hike to Solitude. (Many passed me, me, many followed.) I stayed at the second pic for a while.
Solitude Lake

The way back was a whole new amazing since you were facing the other way and the light was opposite. However by like 15 miles i was done and wasn't looking any more.
Solitude Lake

As in previous post i would have walked right by these guys if not for other people.
Local geologic feature

In 1925 the side of this hill gave way and avalanched into the valley - and a little up the other side (pic 2.) This landslide dammed the valley and made a lake. In pic 3 you can still see where theMeer informatie
Mud pots

Today i stopped to see Mud Volcano and other geologies near my campsite. The video is Dragon's Mouth.
Mud Volcano

Not a volcano of course.
Ramblin'

He's a ramblin man because he's not strong enough to be a top male. All the alphas are mating now.
Artist's Paintpots

So named for all the colors - not just the pools, but the pools, their runoff, minerals, the algae, the lichens, everything. This pool had a great blue.
Artist's Paintpots

This is the mud pit you've probably heard about. The sound was great.
Artist's Paintpots

Every little spot in Yellowstone should be given attention. Does the bell sound come through on the video? It sounds like water dripping on a tin pot.
Gibbon Falls

Its idyllic.
Large mammal #3

Can you see the coyote in the grass? No? Must be no accident his coat is the same color.
West Yellowstone

The town is highly developed for tourism, seemingly exclusively. The two main roads are all Old Westy-like. Everything is immaculate. I drove through a subdivision and all the houses looked brand new.Meer informatie
Relaxing on the Madison

I stopped here to watch the storm come in (see first pic previous post, lots of thunder)... and it fizzled. More irony. ...Reminds me of the time i put lots of effort into repairing the hot waterMeer informatie
Do buffalo swim?

Yup.
Do buffalo...

Stand in the middle of the road for so long that rangers have to come down and swat them away? Yup.
First attempt

Weather this morning was different, 45 at dawn and frigidly clammy. This is what Grand Prismatic Spring looked like. I went back to the car and ate brunch. Then shampooed my seats.
Fog be gone

After the sun burned off the fog you could see what was coming from the water.
Still hazy

Fairy Falls hike

After that i went on a hike that takes you above Grand Prismatic to a falls and a geyser.
In other pictures you can see what a forest looks like after a recent fire, 5 years after a fire, etc. ThisMeer informatie
Fairy Falls

The falls were very pretty. Watch out for the 5 pound extremely aggressive chipmunks! In the last pic can you see him laying in wait to see if the prey will come to him?
