    Zamora

    July 26, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We arrived to Zamara by the IC-train (up to 239 kmh). The albergue was very nice: rooms with 10 double beds, donativo, inkl. breakfast, in the center. After small break we set off for the city: nice with big cathedral and 24 Romanian churches. All the restaurants opened at 8pm, so we got only salad and went home to sleep properly before our first day.Read more

  • Zamora

    July 27, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

My dad woke me up and we tried to “escape”, but the main entrance was still closed. Fortunately we found an emergency exit in the kitchen. Taking some bread from the breakfast ( was at 7am = too late for us) we started our 380km journey to Santiago.Read more

  • Granja de Moreruela

    July 27, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

was getting hotter, but really hot were the last 7km to Granja de Mareruela – our today’s destination. Albergue OK, 5€, one room was full, so they opened new one – only for us :). Again without dinner we went to bed at 8pm.Read more

  • Faramontanos de Tábara

    July 28, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

In the night we got a lot of fleabi tes. We stated at 4:40 in total darkness. The stars and the Milky way were so nice, we saw some meteorites. The descent to the lake (after the bridge) was in the dawn quite difficult. In Faramontanos de Tábara we were happy to find an open bar for breakfast: beer, omolet-sandwitch.Read more

  • Villanueva de las Peras

    July 28, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Then we skipped Tábara and headed direct to the pass on ZA-100.

It was getting hot and Martin could’nt take it. In Villanueva de las Peras we found an 2* albergue, but there was nobody there, so we went to the restaurant La Moña for lunch. Delicious Menu for 10 €. The owner asked us where we are going – of course we couldn’t understand the question, so he borough a flyer of the albergue – it was his! I asked for the price and couldn’t believe the answer: 10€ pp! Incredible! We took a room immediately and he went with us to the pension La Alameda: we got our room… no the whole house only for us.
Then we washed our sleep sheets and cloths in the washing machine to get rid of the fleas. We did not meet a single pilgrim today.

  • Rionegro del Puente

    July 29, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Nice nature, swimming in the reservoir, tee+coffee in Villas de Far on (don.)
At 5pm we arrived in Rionegro de Puente: big albergue (7€), only 3 bikers. We went to the next bar for beer and tapas. We were running short of money. After a short walk through the village we played cards and then we moved into the room upstairs with no another pilgrims and hopefully no fleas (except of our own).Read more

  • Mombuey

    July 30, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

5:30 wake up, no new bites!
5:50 set off, 7:20 sunrise, 7:40 coffee at a petrol station.
In Mombuey we eventually found an ATM!

8:10 breakfast (tee, sandwich, donut, sello) in Mombuey. Martin took over the navigation so we had to run because he wanted to increase a our average speed ( to 8.6) – at least for 1 minute. :-)

11:30 Peter's ankle get suddenly swollen

  • Puebla de Sanabria

    July 30, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

2 km more to the town, first albergue: Casa-Luz, 10€, 5 people. Shower, washing, relax. 40km today, Martin got lots of energy, Peter was finished. The worst was the last 8km on asphalt roads.

  • Requejo de Salabrio

    July 31, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

After cup of tea we left the albergue at 7:30, climbed to the castle and the old town and then we followed the path to Requejo de Salabrio. It was a nice path in the nature along the river Castro, only the last 1.5 km was on a main road.
11:00 sello in Terroso, 11:30 breakfast in Requejo, then nice nature-path in the valley of Rio Castro.

  • Padornelo

    July 31, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

There was a new building site for the new high-speed train line from Madrid to Galicia. From this building site there was a good abbreviation (- ~3 km) to the pass Padornelo, 1350m, which we arrived at 14:20 – Yatta!
    15:30 lunch in Padornelo: beer+chips
We arrived to the albergue at 17:50, but it was closed.

We tried to call the number written on a sheet on the door – nobody answered. Then we met a boy on the street, he pushed the door and let us in. There were already 2 pilgrims. We took the upper (empty) room and went to the village to have a dinner. The menu in the bar we had found was quite disappointing: only meet or bacon, at least for the starter we got salads. On the way back we met the hospitalera, she recognized us as pilgrims and said she would come later to the albergue (our Spanish was getting better every day :-)). Back in albergue there was an Italian couple (Paulo+Patrcia) in “our” room. They spoke English, they started in Puebla and came from Milano. They did it already two times, Paulo said Santiago was like a drug, when you did it once you couldn’t stop.
Then came the hospitalera for the “check-in”: only 3€. Incredible coincidence: when Peter looked at the names in the pilgrims book one name catch my eye: “30.7. Olga Sklenářová, Prague.” Unbelievable!! The same women was last year in albergue Aguncheiro two days ahead! This time only one day, so maybe next year we would catch up with her :-).
Before going to bed at 10pm we played Bluetooth-chess. Peter won, so Martin wouldn’t play any more with me.

    August 1, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

7:30 set off, first 2 km on a paved road, then ascent to Portela de Canada 1262m (we met here the two Spanish pilgrims from our albergue) and descent to Vilavella.
    Nice nature-path through the mountain.
10:40 breakfast in Vilavella in Spa-hotel.
Short before at Gudiña we met a pilgrim looking for her biking husband, funny: she walked with a big backpack, he was on bike. At 14:50 we arrived to the albergue in A Gudiña.
The two Spanish pilgrims were allready there, we went to the town for lunch: Bar Peregrino: ensalada mixta, calamares, bocadillo tortilla queso, cerveza, rioja. Later on came the Italian couple and then the police for check in and one more pilgrim.

  • Campobecerros

    August 2, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

7:20 we left as last. Drizzle, fog and rain, but not so cold … first, but getting colder when our clothes gets wet. We overtook the other pilgrims and met the woman-walking-man-biking pair. She was quite quick, so no wonder the man couldn’t make it on foot.

11:00 breakfast ( toast+marmalade+tee/coffee) in Campobecerros, the others pilgrims arrived short after us, they took probably a typical local breakfast: 1 bottle wine, cheese, salami, bacon, tomato, bread.
The weather was getting better = less wet. In Eiras there was a small pilgrim-oasis with drinks, cookies … Thanks for it!
Here we met a local man who had worked in Zürich and in Munich and spoke little bit German.

Shower, washing, cocoa + tea + cereal bars, relax …
then came the 5 other pilgrims + a new elderly pair. The albergue was nice with 4 rooms with 4 double-beds each. At 6pm we went to the centre for dinner: ensalada, cervesa, vino tinto.
Four other pilgrims on bike came to the albergue and took the last room.
In the evening we played cards (66)

After shower and washing we went to the town (another 700m!) for dinner: ensalada, bocadillos, pasta con carne, beer, cider, wine. We met the WWMB-pair, plain-clothed hardly to recognize.
In “our” came 3 women, at 20:00 was check in.

We met P+P again: they took a taxi, because Paolo couldn’t walk any more.

    August 4, 2014 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Next beer in Tamallancos. Beer is the perfect food for a pilgrims: refreshing, lots of water, lots of vitamins, lots of energy, easy digestible and the alcohol as a painkiller.

We arrived both (nobody died) to the albergue in Cea at 19:15. The albergue (6€) was nearly full despite 40 places, most of the people walk only that last 100km for getting the diploma.
For dinner we warmed up an instant meal (pasta with shrimps and mussels) which we bought 4 km before and we cooked tea – last one bag.
