Direct flights to Colombia were very expensive from either Manchester or Heathrow.
We opted for TAP Airlines national carrier for Portugal, had a really positive flight experience.
Lovely to see dogs 🐕 on the flight ✈️. If your dog weighs less than 10kg you can take on board and place at your feet.
Even though we were transitioning at Miami Airport you still need a ESTA before travelling!Read more

Bogota to San Andres

Yesterday we left Bogota and departed on a two hour flight ✈️ to the beautiful island of San Andres. Located off the coast Nicaragua. Opted to fly with LATAM Airlines, Brazilian owned.

Despite its proximity to Nicaragua, the Caribbean island of San Andrés is actually a part of Colombia, offering visitors a blend of Colombian, English, and African influences that show up in its language, cuisine, and music. It’s known for its clear waters and coral reefs, so things to do in San Andrés include scuba diving, snorkeling, and lounging on some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. San Andres - West View

West View is one of the best places on San Andrés Island for snorkeling and swimming. Unlike traditional beaches, this spot features a natural rocky platform leading directly into the crystal-clear Caribbean waters. Instead of sand, visitors will find wooden decks and ladders, making it easy to enter the sea. The area is known for its rich marine life, with colorful tropical fish swimming around in the warm, transparent waters. Thanks to the natural coral formations, snorkeling here offers a unique chance to see the underwater beauty of San Andrés.

Please avoid ordering the authentic local dish called Ron Don, see image. Truly awful 😖 experience of sea snails, pork tail, and dumplings.

San Andres - Rocky Cay

Rocky Cay is located about 150 yards off the eastern coast of San Andres. It is located in a little bay just north of the half way point down the east coast of the island. Just off the island, you’ll see a wrecked and rusted out ship that ran into the reef and got stuck years ago.

Due to high winds we couldn't go snorkeling to the house and abandoned ship that features my pictures.Read more

San Andres - Haynes Cay & Rose Cay

Rose Cay and Haynes Cay are located just 1 mile (1.6 km) from the eastern shores of San Andres Island. It's situated in the crystal clear waters of the mar de 7 colores (sea of seven colors) outside Puerto de San Andrés.

This is a very popular tour, and walking across the floating bridge in high winds is not for the faint hearted. Personally, I wouldn't do this tour again.

San Andres - Johnny Cay

This beautiful sandy cay (pronounced in the Caribbean as “key“) is just a quick boat ride away from the northern end of San Andres. Here, you’ll discover white-sand beaches dropping into crystal clear water and dense palm trees growing out from its center, almost like rasta dreads!

Isla Johnny Cay is located approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) off the northern coast of San Andres. As a result, visitors will need to take a boat tour to get to this famous cay. This departs just off one of the main beaches near San Andres Town called Playa Spratt Bight.Read more

San Andrés to Providencia - Flight

Flying from San Andrés (ADZ) to Providencia (PVA) involves short, frequent flights on small planes, primarily operated by SATENA, taking around 15-20 minutes, with prices varying but often in the 200,000-300,000 COP range; it's best to book in advance as flights fill up quickly. You'll fly from San Andrés Island to Providencia Island, a short hop to the neighboring paradise.

The option of a ferry was only restored on 26th December 2025, after a three year absence. This journey can take from 4 to 10 hours depending on sea conditions.

Satena only allows 10kg of luggage in the hold so pack lightly.Read more

Providencia - South West Beach

South West Bay is the largest beach on the island, it's also the place to be for the Saturday afternoon horse racing. Also the social gathering of the week. If you’ve been on the island a few days, you’ll bump into everyone you’ve met during the week.

Pretty empty most of the time. For around 20 minutes, the whole island descends to place their bets on their winning horse.

The horse race lasts around 2 minutes. It's supposed to start at 1 pm, but to no surprise, it begins more towards 3 pm.

Otherwise a calm beach, there are many restaurants and bars with plenty of space to find your little chill-out spot. It's awesome for lunch and in the evening you can eat under the stars in front of the bonfire.Read more

Providencia - Crab Quay

Crab Cay was certainly the only disappointment of our Providencia trip. Crab Cay is a really small stone island, which is located about 1 km off Providencia and can only be visited by boat or kayak. Alternatively, it would of course also be possible to swim across, but I would really not advise anyone to do that because of the strong current.

Every Sunday from 1.00pm onwards the island is only open to locals.

Providencia - San Andrés - Medellín

Today was a very complicated travel itinerary. Due to baggage weight restrictions on Satena Airlines (10kg), we had to leave our 23kgs suitcases in left luggage in San Andres Airport, take 10kg of luggage in a separate bag. On return, we then had to repack the 10kg bag with our 23kg suitcase.

Flight 1: Providencia to San Andres.

Flight 2: San Andres to Medellín.

Looking forward to celebrating 🍾 New Year's Eve in Medellín.Read more

nitroxwaterHello. Medellin definitely had a very troubled past in the 1980's and 1990's. However, things have really changed for the better. Local people are so kind despite having piss poor Spanish. Happy New Year.

Via Viatour.com we booked a full day tour to Guatapé, get the opportunity to see the impressive Piedra del Peñol.

This tour lasts for a full day and starts from the city of Medellín at 7.00am. Great opportunity to get to know the most beautiful landscapes in the country, climb 742 steps to reach the top of the Stone, and walk through the traditional, colourful streets of Guatapé town.

We also navigated Lake Guatapé on a boat, there we witnessed the country's celebrity vacation homes (mansions), and the ruins of Pablo Escobar's old house.

Incredibly good value for money £27.00 (GBP), this tour includes breakfast, lunch, and full day (7.00am to 7.00pm) coach transportation.Read more
