I’ve now finished the entire east coast stretch of the NC500! Starting in Inverness, I followed the road north through Tain, Golspie and Helmsdale, up past Wick and on to John o’ Groats before reaching Thurso. That’s around 125 miles – about a quarter of the full 516-mile loop.
From here the route swings west across the very top of Scotland towards Durness, before diving down into the wild west coast with Assynt, Ullapool, Torridon and Applecross still to come.
