🔋✨ Off-Grid Nights with Vanilla’s Battery

I’ve been off-grid for the last 2 nights — no campsite hook-up, no mains cable sneaking in through the window — just me, Vanilla, and one very hardworking leisure battery keeping the dream alive. 🌌🚐

The chart from my Victron SmartShunt is basically a bedtime story in electricity. 📖⚡

On the left side, the orange line (voltage) soars up to around 14.5V. That’s Vanilla getting a proper feed before we left civilisation — full belly, happy battery. 🍽️🔋 The blue line (current) is above zero, showing energy flooding in. Think of it as Vanilla gulping down a pint before the big journey. 🍺

Then comes the dramatic twist: charging stops. The voltage drops, the current flips below zero… suddenly the battery is the one doing all the work. 🛠️ From that point on, every fridge hum, every cosy glow of the lights, every gadget whirring away has been powered straight from that single lump of lead and acid beneath the bed.

Over the hours, you can see the slow drift from 13V down towards 12.2V. That’s not weakness — that’s stamina. 💪 Like a marathon runner pacing themselves through the night. Steady, reliable, uncomplaining.

By the end of the second night, the battery is sitting at about 50% state of charge, still holding its own. No wobbles, no collapses, no “lights out” moment. Just a calm, dependable descent.

So while I’ve been cooking, sleeping, and watching the stars twinkle above the Highlands 🌠, Vanilla’s battery has been my quiet little hero. Off-grid life might look like freedom, but in reality it’s this loyal power pack that makes the whole adventure possible.
