🌅 Ullapool to Stornoway – The Ferry on Fire and Glass 🚢✨

At 19:00, Ullapool gave me one of those moments that sear themselves into memory. The MV Loch Seaforth began her slow departure west, and I had my drone already climbing into the evening air. What unfolded below wasn’t just a ferry leaving a harbour — it was a Highland epic painted in light and reflection.

Loch Broom lay utterly still, as though the world had pressed pause. No breeze, no ripple. Just a vast sheet of molten glass stretching out towards the Minch. The sunset poured itself across the loch, turning it into a mirror of fire — every orange blaze, every streak of violet cloud copied perfectly in the water.

The ferry glided out as if weightless, its hull slicing into two skies: one above, one below. From the drone’s view, her wake carved a glowing spearhead across the mirrored surface, splitting heaven and earth in a single gesture.

Behind her, Ullapool’s white cottages gleamed like a necklace of pearls on the darkening shore. The mountains crouched in purple shadow, sentinels watching their ship slip away. Ahead, the horizon burned gold, the Outer Hebrides just a faint promise where sea met sky.

And there I was — or rather, there we were. Me, Vanilla parked quietly on the edge of the harbour, and my drone hanging in the air like a silent gull. Together we witnessed the choreography of stillness and motion, of farewell and promise.

It was more than just a ferry sailing. It was a procession: the Highlands bowing out for the night, the sea opening its gate, and a ship carrying stories westward into the dusk.

Watching it through the drone’s lens felt like holding a secret — the kind of beauty you want to share but know no screen will ever quite contain.

Scotland doesn’t just do sunsets. It orchestrates them. And last night, Ullapool proved itself a maestro. 🌊✨🚁
