📍 Applecross Walled Garden – A Secret Highland Haven

Reaching Applecross always feels like a pilgrimage. The roads coil and climb, testing gears and nerve, and then — just when the wilderness seems absolute — you stumble upon something entirely unexpected: a walled garden straight out of a storybook.

🌿 Inside those old stone walls, time bends. The Atlantic winds hush, the temperature softens, and suddenly there’s colour everywhere — borders alive with late blooms, herbs perfuming the air, vegetables standing proud in neat rows. After the stark drama of the Highlands, it’s almost surreal to wander through such order and abundance.

🥗 At its heart, the café serves up plates that taste of the very earth and sea around Applecross. Fresh greens, seafood landed nearby, vegetables pulled from soil a stone’s throw away. I ate slowly, savouring food that could only belong here, while looking out at flowers nodding under the weight of bees.

🚐 Vanilla, parked up outside, seemed to rest too — content after the long run to the west. Tomorrow she’ll tackle the Bealach na Bà with its dizzying switchbacks and panoramic drama, but today was about balance: rugged roads offset by calm paths, wild mountains framed by tended walls.

✨ That’s the magic of the Applecross Walled Garden. It’s more than a stop for food or a stroll; it’s a reminder that even in Scotland’s remotest corners, humans and nature have been weaving beauty together for centuries. You leave not just fed, but steadied.
