France and Spain have different track gauges (space between the rails). Cerbere and Porbou used to be the main rail freight hubs for changing the gauge of trains between France and Spain. I went to have a look at the gauge changing equipment which was super cool. It sees a lot less use than it used to as most goods are transported by road. Ironically one of the few things it makes sense to transport by rail is cars.Read more
