We had heard that the Budapest public transport may be the prettiest in Europe and so far it hasn't disappointed.

Many of the escalators are wood (I googled to confirm).

M2 is the oldest subway line in Europe.Read more

Travelernot in Europe but Moscow and St Petersburg subways are spectacularly beautiful.
