• Catacombs of St. Callixtus

    I love all of the Christian symbols here. It's very interesting how Jonah as a picture of Jesus was so widely used, whereas we don't so much today despite Him making the connection Himself. No photos inside the catacombs at it is a place of reverence and celebration. There are no bodies in the level open for tours, but there are small chapels where people sometimes hold a service to take communion.

    After the tour (you can't enter alone, and once you see the labyrinth of passages below you understand why) we walked along the path through trees and field next to the Appian Way.

    The bus stop on the way there is literally at the entrance. The bus stop for the way back is not for the faint of heart.
