This one made us a little nervous. The doors are super sketch and the stairs inside even more so. Thankfully, the actual apartment is tiny, but clean, cozy, and adorable. We're also about 3 minutes from the main town square, and across the street from a Tesco grocery.

However, the toilet makes a noise upon flushing that the girls have described as "summoning Cthulhu". So I've added it here for the memories.En savoir plus

VoyageurGood job on picking the location:) Our lodging in Russia was very similar with heavy doors with multiple locks and dark concrete stairwells before you finally find the door to your apartment.

I found out halfway through I wasn't allowed to take pics inside, oops!

There are a lot of swords, guns, bullets, letters, books and more on display. There was even Charlie's death mask. The right walls tell the story from the Jacobites point of view, while the left tells the government's.

I hadn't really thought of it as a civil war before, but that's really what it was. Our guide mentioned that more Scots were fighting on the government side than on Bonnie Prince Charlie's.

Entrance included a battlefield tour, and the docent was fantastic.En savoir plus

"On 16 April 1746, the final Jacobite Rising came to a brutal head in one of the most harrowing battles in British history.

Jacobite supporters, seeking to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British thrones, gathered to fight the Duke of Cumberland’s government troops. It was the last pitched battle on British soil and, in less than an hour, around 1,600 men were slain – 1,500 of them Jacobites."

This was the last hand-to-hand battle on British soil.

The clan stones and memorials were very moving, and it's a beautiful place.

Leanach Cottage was used as a field hospital. The door was so small even Anya would have needed to duck!En savoir plus

Caledonian Sleeper Train

This was quite an experience! Go to sleep in Inverness, wake up in London! I wish we could travel this way all the time.

Tiny, tiny rooms, but a real bed, sink and even an ensuite toilet and shower!

Breakfast in the club car in the morning was delicious.

I slept great, it reminded me of trips in the motorhome when I was little.En savoir plus

We couldn’t pass through London without a stop at King’s Cross Station - because yes, we had to get photos at Platform 9¾.

The team there is amazing—they’ll toss the scarf, pose you just right, and snap the perfect magical moment. Totally worth the line (and the giggles)! We were in line with the cutest little Harry.En savoir plus

The oldest known customer complaint. It's from Ur and written in cuneiform. What a thing to be remembered for.

“Tell Ea-Nasir: Nanni sends the following message:

When you came, you said to me: “I will give fine quality copper ingots.”

You left, but you did not do what you promised me.

You put ingots which were not good before my messenger and said:

“If you want to take them, take them; if you do not want to take them, go away!”

What do you take me for that you treat me with such contempt? …

Tower of London

We had the BEST Beefeater tour guide. We walked right into the Tower of London as he was starting off. He's beefy409 on Facebook.

This is the place of kings, queens, and executions. The crown jewels are houses here (no pictures allowed).

The Beefeaters are the Queen's personal guard and still live here. They must serve 20 years in the armed forces before being able to apply. More people have been to space than have become Beefeaters.

Legend has it that as long as the ravens still live at the Tower, England will not fall.En savoir plus

No changing of the guard today, they are prepping for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrating her 70 year reign (the longest of any British monarch).

The gardeners were thinning the tulips and giving them out. The girls were thrilled, and a kind older lady at Westminster Abbey told Éowyn what a very special day it was, to receive a flower from the Queen.En savoir plus
