Outside of Split is Marjan Park. This is a peninsula with gorgeous little beaches and trails everywhere.

We spent the day here relaxing.

Cathedral of St Dominus Bell Tower

This was built to be Diocletian's mausoleum. However, he was not buried here and it was turned into a church.

"It is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century). The structure itself, built in AD 305 as the Mausoleum of Diocletian, is the second oldest structure used by any Christian Cathedral."

The bell tower is more modern and the views are lovely! You can make out the old walls of the palace.

The stairs up are a little freaky. The lower marble ones are the highest stairs I've seen, and then the metal stairs and platform are full of holes!Read more

We had a lovely aerial view of Split and Marjan Park as we flew out. I could see where we kayaked and the beach we spent the day at.

Croatia is a beautiful country. Romania, Hungary, and Croatia have the same vibe to me as the US in the 80s.

This has been one of our favorites! So homey and spacious. Two lovely balconies and lots of space for everyone.

We've typically stayed in more central locations, but due to a last minute cancellation we found this place in Liljholmen. It was surrounded by parks, waterways, and lakes, but still with easy access into the city center.Read more

There are so many waterways here! Stockholm is made up of 14 islands officially, but there are over 30,000 in the area. We're a bit to the west of the center of Stockholm near lots of nice paths, beaches, and docks.Read more

A modern duplex apartment with roof terrace. Gröndal is located close to the water, so there are many nice walking paths and bathing cliffs around. Here you find bakerys, coffee shops, food store and restaurants. With tram and metro its just 8 min to Hornstull that is located on beautiful Södermalm where you find a lot of restaurants, bars and shops. Its 15 min to go to the city centre, and 4 min to Liljeholmen where you find a big shopping centre, metro and buses to to Arlanda Airport.

Its 3 bedrooms in total. Upstairs you find the master bedroom that is leading out to the big south facing terrace there you can enjoy your breakfast and dinner or just hang around. Upstairs is also one more bedroom, a small bathroom, and a library with wardrobe there you can keep clothes and luggage.
Downtairs you find the big kitchen, the living room, a bedroom, the bigger bathroom with shower and a washing machine, and a balcony. The flat is perfect for a family. If you need one more bed we can arrange that.

Stockholm Walking Tour

Well, we weren't expecting it to be in the 90s here too on our northernmost city of the trip! Our tour guide says she usually has to worry about people being too cold, haha.

I didn't know much about Swedish history, so it was interesting to learn more. Lots of kings named Gustav. We also managed to time it right to get to see the changing of the guard.

We also heard about the longstanding rivalry between Sweden and Denmark. Even today, IKEA names some of its rugs that you wipe your feet on after Danish places.Read more

Relaxing at Trekantens Lake

Near our apartment in Liljeholmen is Trekantens lake. It has a small beach and dock. The water is a perfect temperature to go for a swim. We had a lot of fun and cooled off from the hot day. - Sean

This is a fantastic museum. The Vasa ship sunk in the harbor in the 1600s, just a tiny ways into its maiden voyage. It sat on the floor of the harbor for 330 years, until they raised it. It's the best preserved ship of its time due to the brackish water.

The pictures don't do it justice. It is huge and haunting. They recovered the skeletons of 15 of the 13 people who died, including one teen that they think was part of a group who decided to sneak on for a joy ride on the maiden voyage. I chose not to take pictures of the remains.Read more
