Corbridge and Hareshaw Linn

Stopped in Corbridge and wandered around the town then headed for our home for the next couple of days at lovely lodge at Wild Northumberland glamping.

Headed out for a walk but not before stopping for an amazing afternoon tea at Tea on the Train in Bellingham.

Then a 3 mile walk to Hareshaw Linn to see the waterfall.

Sycamore gap

We parked at Steel Rigg to walk the three or so miles to Housesteads fort song Hadrian's wall, via Sycamore Gap. The views were lovely!

Housesteads fort

We arrived at Housesteads fort and spent some time getting the fort and the impressive art installation built to celebrate the 1,900 year anniversary of the fort.

The structure is sited on the North gatehouse and you could climb to see how the Romans would have viewed the landscape.

A posh coffee in the way back and we arrived back at the car just before the heavens opened!Read more

Beamish, the living museum of the North

We travelled just under an hour south to visit Beamish, an open air museum and spent a lovely day viewing the various areas including 1825, the 1900 town and the developing 1950 area along with a farm and 'pit village' although the drift mine was closed. We also sneaked a beer in at the pub, shared a fish and chips cooked in lard and bought some old fashioned sweets (acid drops for Ed and strawberry bon bons for me). Despite the forecast, the weather stayed dry.

Later in the afternoon we drove the shirt distance to Durham where we were staying for the night. The hotel Indigo is located in the old civil offices near the centre of town. We had a meal booked at the restaurant in the hotel which is in the old circular council chamber. After a the course meal we were both ready to head for some much needed sleep!Read more

National media museum & Shibden Mill Inn

We travelled South after breakfast as the weather in Durham was wet.

We stopped in Bradford at the national media museum and saw lots of memories of programmes from growing up.

From there it was a short drive to our home for the next couple of nights, the Shibden Mill Inn, near Halifax. https://shibdenmillinn.com/Read more

Shibden hall and Piece Hall, Halifax

After breakfast we spent the morning visiting Shibden Hall Which was the home of Anne Lister, the central character in Gentlemen Jack. We also wandered around the grounds and took advantage of the sun.

Next, we drove the short distance into Halifax and visited Piece Hall, which was built by the wool traders. It's an impressive area. Unfortunately the weather took a turn and we had some heavy rain so we headed back to hotel after paying a quick visit to another old Mill.

Having freshened up. We travel back into Halifax for a few drinks and some food in the evening.Read more
