  • Pattaya

    October 13, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

In your face tourism at its finest!

Last minute decision to come here due to poor weather in the south. I won't be visiting again any time soon.

Pattaya did have one saving grace, The Sanctuary of Truth museum. A temple constructed entirely from timber using traditional jointing methods, covered in thousands of intricately hand carved decorations. Absolutely unbelievable Jeff!! 😲Read more

  • Doi Inthanon National Park

    October 22, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

I took a day tour out to Doi Inthnanon National Park which is home to the highest peak in Thailand. The Thai's love coming here to take a photo next to the temperature display because most of them have never experienced temperatures this low before. It was 15 degrees at the summit.Read more

  • Chiang Khong

    October 28, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Quick stop here before crossing over the border into Laos. Not much to say about this place except it has some sort of claim to fame related to Catfish.

  • Vang Vieng

    November 6, 2023 in Laos ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Took the new high speed train from Luang Prabang down to Vang Vieng. The train ride was comfortable but it's a faff buying tickets and the security is worse than an airport!

Vang Vieng has clearly developed for tourism and the town is not pleasing to the eye. What the town lacks in aesthetics is balanced by the beautiful scenery and the great vibe from the locals and travellers.Read more

  • Vientiane

    November 10, 2023 in Laos ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Quick stop here before catching a flight out to Cambodia.

Clearly the most developed city I've seen in Laos, but there is not really a great deal to see or do here.

  • Phnom Penh

    November 11, 2023 in Cambodia

Spent three nights in Phnom Penh and had a great time. I really liked the city. It's quite well developed with modern high rise buildings and services, but felt open and less oppressive than Bangkok. It's reasonably well maintained with plenty of trees and vegetation.

My time here was made even more special as I met up with Dylan and Megan on day two and we had a blast exploring the city on a full day tuk tuk tour.

Crossing the road here is like being in a real life game of frogger!! Not for the faint hearted!!

  • Siem Reap

    November 14, 2023 in Cambodia ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Siem Reap is the main stop off point for access to the Angkor Archeological Park which contains the famous Angkor Wat temple.

The city has a large expat community yet maintains a good balance between tourism and traditional Cambodian life. I quite enjoyed it here.Read more

  • Angkor Archeological Park

    November 15, 2023 in Cambodia ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

We spent two days exploring the many temples in Angkor Archeological Park. We had great fun with our guide Votha who was very informative and very funny.

The weather was very hot and humid which was only made bearable by the haven of the air-con in our drivers car!Read more

  • Battambang

    November 18, 2023 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Battambang is Cambodia's second largest city but is less favoured by tourists compared to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. It has minimal Western influence and allows for insight into a
more authentic Cambodian way of life.

The city retains a lot of its original colonial influence and there is a constant cloud of dust hovering over the streets due to the gravel and dirt on the "not so well" maintained roads.

  • Koh Rong

    November 22, 2023 in Cambodia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

After Battambang I went down to Sihanouk Ville to catch the ferry over to Koh Rong island.

The island has some beautiful beaches and has managed to escape too much development as yet. As such, the island doesn't offer a great deal in activities, which is perfect for switching off and relaxing by the beach.Read more

  • Kuala Lumpur

    November 28, 2023 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Next stop on my travels is Malaysia, starting with Kuala Lumpur.

I really like KL, the city is well developed with good infrastructure and high rise buildings throughout the central districts. There is a great mix of cultures and people which means the food options are awesome!

KL reminded me a lot of Singapore, but perhaps a little less tidy and more edgy.

  • Malacca

    December 4, 2023 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

From Kuala Lumpur I took the bus down south to check out the UNESCO World Heritage town of Malacca.

Malacca old town is lovely. It's full of colonial era buildings and the riverside is beautifully illuminated at night.

Despite Malacca being a popular tourist destination, a lot of restaurants and businesses were closed during my visit which was disappointing.

  • George Town

    December 8, 2023 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

After Malacca I had a quick stop in Kuala Lumpur before getting the bus up to Penang.

Like Malacca, George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considerably larger than Malacca.

The old town is full of colonial era buildings, traditional Chinese shop houses, and Victorian architecture.

A very nice and relaxed city, with a reputation for excellent food!

  • Langkawi

    December 13, 2023 in Malaysia ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

After George Town I went over to Langkawi island for a few days.

At first, I stayed in Kuah towards the East side of the island. I was surprised by the amount of abandoned buildings and closed businesses in the town. Those premises that were open were in need of some serious TLC.

After Kuah I headed over to the West coast where I found the town there to be much more pleasant.

  • Ho Chi Minh City

    December 23, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Wow, Ho Chi Minh is such a vibrant city!

It's loud, it's chaotic, the traffic is endless, the nightlife never stops, the Banh Mi are amazing, and the people are lovely. Ho Chi Minh truly is a city that never sleeps! It was a great place to spend Christmas and to see in the New Year.

Whilst in HCMC I was introduced to Mooney's Irish bar where they have live music almost every night. I was blown away by the talent of the musicians who performed there and thoroughly recommend paying the bar a visit if you ever happen to be in HCMC.

  • Nha Trang

    January 4, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Next stop in Vietnam is Nha Trang, a well developed seaside resort on the South Eastern coast.

The city, although not particularly picturesque, is quite relaxed and has some nice beaches.

  • Da Nang

    January 7, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

As I work my way North through Vietnam, my next stop is Da Nang.

The city feels like a scaled down version of Ho Chi Minh. It's less densely built and has a minimal number of high rise buildings. Overall the city was a bit meh.

On my second day I took a tour to Ba Na hills to ride the cable car up the mountain. I was surprised by what I found at the top!
