  • The Secret Beach

    12 février 2019, Sri Lanka ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

Not so sure if it’s still a secret, but it’s definitively worth a visit: The Secret Beach Mirissa in the very south of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 🏝 Have a drink at Secret Beach Bar or relax in one of the hammocks or day beds overlooking a blue lagoon beach. But hurry up, Sri Lanka’s tourism is booming, so better go fast before everyone discovers Sri Lanka‘s best kept secrets!En savoir plus

  • Green Canyon

    2 février 2019, Indonésie ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Wow, such a cool Canyon in West Java. The water’s green colour gave the canyon its name. I really enjoyed swimming, floating and jumping a lot in this breathtaking scenery 💦 However, the 14m jump was even too high for the boldest penguin. Only this one crazy girl did it 😯 😱

Green Canyon? A must, if you are in the area!

  • Batukaras

    29 janvier 2019, Indonésie ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Batukaras is a beautiful fishing village in West Java and probably the coolest surf spot on the whole island. However, Penguin Phil got bored of surfing as he doesn’t even need a board under his feet to outperform every single human who tries to compete with him at riding waves 😇☺️. So he rather wondered around and made conversion with the local fishermen (hoping to get some fresh fish) 🐠 🎣 🐟En savoir plus

  • Villa Batu Hill

    25 janvier 2019, Indonésie ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Located on top of a sunny hillside overlooking the small fishing village of Watukarung in East Java, you’ll find a very private hide out: Villa Batu Hill 🌴☀️For me it's the very first time in such a luxurious place as I usually prefer homestays and smaller beach huts. But hanging out with my dad Tobias, the CEO of FindPenguins, in an infinity pool 🏊‍♂️ while enjoying stunning views and a fresh ocean breeze is a magical experience even for the world’s most travelled Penguin 🧳🐧En savoir plus

  • Rice Fields @ Watukarung

    23 janvier 2019, Indonésie ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Welcome to the incredible shiny natural green Island of Java, Indonesia. It’s fair to say that rice holds a central place in Indonesian culture and shapes the country’s landscape🌴 ☀️

Just 5 minutes of the coast line in Watukarung, you’ll find beautiful lush green sawahs (rice fields) surrounded by jungle, that are definitively worth a footprint on your FindPenguin’s travel map 🗺

I met a kind local farmer out in the fields and although communicating was quite tricky he agreed to take this selfie with me. Amazing experience 🐧 🙏

Fun fact: Even though Indonesia is the world's third-largest rice grower, the country still has to import significant amounts of rice for the needs of its population 🍚

  • London

London Baby! One of my favorite cities in Europe and ALWAYS worth a trip 🇬🇧👍

Especially East London is one of the most exciting places to shop, eat and to people-watch. To discover some of the city’s hipster-approved hang-outs, just walk from the canal up to Fields Park on a Saturday morning and enjoy locally produced food at Broadway market. In case you prefer a more sophisticated meal with a 360 view, enjoy high-end sushi at the 38th floor of Salesforce Tower in the City of London 🍣En savoir plus

    15 janvier 2019, Italie ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Bologna has a population of approximately 388,000 inhabitants and lies to the north of Florence, to the South of Venice and to the South East of Milan. The massive fountain behind me (see photos 1 and 2) is a popular hangout and busy tourist attraction. Locals have nicknamed it “il Gigante” (the Giant). The church in the third photo is dedicated to Saint Petronius who is the city’s patron saint.En savoir plus

  • Zell am See

    10 janvier 2019, Autriche ⋅ ❄️ -2 °C

From warm and sunny Hong Kong to cold and snowy Zell am See in Austria: I went snowboarding for the very first time in my life ❄️🏂 I had loads of fun. However, I felt muscles hurting that I didn’t even know I had. I spent a lot of time picking myself up off the snow, which felt worse than 1000 burpees by the end of the day. So I drank my pain away at an après skiing party🍸. The day after my head almost hurt as bad as my muscles. So I took a day off from snowboaring and checked out the picturesque town Zell am See.En savoir plus

  • How to beat airport boredom???

    8 janvier 2019, Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

I’m hanging at Hong Kong airport for hours now waiting for boarding. BORING!!! Throughout my travels I’ve had tons of crazy long delays, which is why I am very familiar with the unholy standard phrase “We are sorry for the delay of your flight. It’s going to be another 30 minutes.” And whenever I hear that phrase I already know that after 30 minutes there will be another delay announcement. But don’t worry, I will get back to Europe…some day…In the meantime: Any ideas how to stop the dude next to me from snoring???En savoir plus

  • Big Buddha

    5 janvier 2019, Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Tian Tan Buddha (the big guy right behind me in the photo) is not only one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world, but also one of Hong Kong's most popular sights. The site draws religious pilgrims from all over Asia. Visitors climb 268 steps to reach the top (quite exhausting but a good workout 🏋️‍♀️). It pays off to bring your camera gear as the panoramic views over Lantau Island are amazing 📸En savoir plus

  • Ngong Ping 360 Crystal Cabin

    1 janvier 2019, Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

I hope you are ready for an adventurous 2019 🎉?!
I kicked off my new year with a high ride in the sky: Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car🚡. The journey from Tung Chung Town Centre to Lantau Island can be a very pleasant experience or an extremely frightful one, depending on how you handle the heights. I’m a feathered daredevil 🐧🚀, so I chose a cabin with a glass bottom to increase the thrill 💪🏻. The cable car goes over the mountains and hills and gives you some fantastic views of the landscape and seas surrounding Lantau Island. I really enjoyed the uncluttered bird’s eye view and can’t think of a better way to start my new year right 🙏En savoir plus

  • Palac Kultury i Nauki, Warszawa

    19 décembre 2018, Pologne ⋅ ⛅ -2 °C

“The Palace of Culture and Science in the name of Joseph Stalin”, the best-known and tallest building in the city, is a mixture of Socialist realism with elements of Polish historicism. It stands for everything Poland tried to reject after the fall of the Berlin Wall and represents the People’s Polish Republic (1947 to 1989). Take the lift up to the 30th floor to see the city panorama from a height of 114 metres.En savoir plus

Even though vodka has long been established as Poland’s national drink, it’s not the only boozy beverage the Poles are proud of 🍺

The craft beer game in Poland is really strong. From hoppy IPA’s and floral Saisons to sweet, dark Porters, Warsaw’s craft beer scene won’t disappoint when you want to share a pint with your mates.

  • Spa Day in Warsaw

    16 décembre 2018, Pologne ⋅ ❄️ -1 °C

Even a real travel bird needs a lazy Sunday from time to time. Especially when it’s cold and snowy outside, there’s no better way to recharge than to treat yourself to a relaxing spa day. Be careful with the local sauna etiquette though. I just had to learn the hard way that nudity is NOT appreciated in saunas all over the world. So make sure to comply with the local sauna code to avoid ending up being the only naked weirdo in the room 😂En savoir plus

  • Tallinn: A mix of old and new!

    9 décembre 2018, Estonie ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

Tallinn - medieval architecture with a modern vibe. The Estonian capital’s old town reminds me of a film set in Game of Thrones, but the city’s spirit is very forward-thinking and entrepreneurial. Old warehouses are converted into spaces for business (i.e. Skype was invented here) and the Estonian government formed the world’s first ever paperless cabinet. The creative atmosphere and open-minded residents make it very easy to bond with the place (especially after a vodka or two 😇), so make sure Tallinn is on your European travel bucket list for 2019!En savoir plus

  • Foodporn in Bolzano

    5 décembre 2018, Italie ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

I tasted my way through the local cuisine of South Tyrol: Pretzel, Polenta, Sachertorte and Strudel as well as amazing pasture cheese and Speck (cured ham). Typical food in South Tyrol is unlike anything you’ll eat in the rest of Italy. Head to the region’s principal town of Bolzano (Bozen) and treat yourself to a day enjoying savory and sweet local specialities. Don’t miss to try a glass of Lagrein, a red wine grape native to the region and related to Syrah and Pinot Noir.En savoir plus

  • Rio de Janeiro

    27 novembre 2018, Brésil ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Snow back home in Munich! Why bother? I’m about to enjoy a caipirinha at one of the most famous beaches on the planet: Praia de Copacabana 🇧🇷

The iconic boardwalk, the clean blue ocean and the jutting mountains make for the classic Rio beach experience. And if there's a fashion theme here, it's "minimalist"👙 Across the street, there are delicious restaurants, but just because you've stepped off the beach, that doesn't mean that people have stopped wearing their beach outfits.

So whether you want to soak in the sun, go for a swim, grab a caipirinha or just watch beautiful girls in tiny bikinis 😉, Copacabana beach is a must-see while in Rio!

And don’t forget to check out the world’s most beautiful staircase: The Escadaria Selarón. A staircase covered in 2,000 pieces of colorful tiles, mirrors and ceramics donated from all over the world. In 2013 the Chilean-born artist Selaron, who transformed the stairway into one of Rio’s most popular tourist attractions, was found dead on the mosaic staircase he spent 20 years creating. Now, the steps serve as a source of optimism and inspiration as well as a reminder of the artist who created them.

  • One night in Berlin

    25 novembre 2018, Allemagne ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

Stopover in Berlin – the capital of German nightlife and the ideal setting for a penguin who loves to hit the dance floor. So after raving the night away in Xberg, I ended up at Minibar (Graefekiez). Very small, very crowded, but awesome vibe and a great place for meeting people. Even if you can’t remember anything: if the party ended in this bar, you most probably had a good time 😊

And don’t forget to stop at close-by Albatross Bakery (Graefestr. 66) before you head home. Best sourdough, croissants, pastries and a fantastic Flat White.

  • Sagres, Portugal

    14 novembre 2018, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

With temperatures starting to drop back home in Munich, I felt like it was the perfect time to kick off my travel adventures with a sunny autumn beach break in southern Europe. So I chose Sagres, Portugal for my first stop 🌊😎🇵🇹☀️

A favourite with surfers and home to the most impressive landscape in the Algave. However, my stay started a little uneasy as I had some trouble with a local fisherman who tried to misuse me as a fishing bait. Luckily, I was able to convince him of penguins eating fish - and not the other way round. To digest this unpleasant encounter (see photo), I needed some days to relax at the beach and go for a surf. I caught some sick waves out there, even though the swell couldn’t compete with Pen Gu Island where I took part in a surfing competition some years ago. Anyway, whenever you’re in this area check out Sagres South. It offers some decent hollow barrels and challenging breaks. The only downside: The spot is pretty popular with humans – both visitors and locals – who desperately tried to copy some of my tricks. Without any success. Free of doubt, Penguins are much better surfers than humans. That being said, I have a fabulous time here in Portugal. I’ll stay for a couple of more days, I guess…

Here my top three things to do in Sagres with my two-legged buddies and loyal Instagram followers:

    1. Head to the Lighthouse of Ponta de Sagres. The south-western tip of mainland Europe. The Algarve ends there in a rocky, high cliff with sparse, treeless vegetation. Watch the beautiful sunset and have a Bratwurst at a little grill called "The last bratwurst before America".

    2. Have a wonderful dinner at the "Cervejaria Talizé". It's a small local restaurant run by a really nice and fun family. Choose a fish and have it cooked on the grill right in front of the restaurant. Really delicious food! Best thing: I didn't even have to catch the fish myself (which doesn’t happen very often when you are a penguin).

    3. Explore the hidden beaches. If you are willing to go a little off road (no worries, a normal car and a bit of attention is fine), you can find cool beaches with less people. I recommend "Ponta Ruiva" beach, the longest left point break in the area. Or Praia Baranco, a hippie beach where people might welcome you with soap bubbles.

  • Servus & bye bye FindPenguins team

    12 novembre 2018, Allemagne ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

    Hey guys,

I’m Phileas, but my friends call me Phil. I'm about one week old and a stuffed penguin. Down to the present day I’ve worked at the FindPenguins office at Gärtnerplatz, Munich. I can't complain about my job or colleagues, actually, the FindPenguins team is really awesome. But office routine is just not for me, so I asked for a sabbatical. At first, my boss Tobias wasn’t too happy about letting go his best employee (and the one and only real penguin in the team). But I can be very persuasive and a real pain in the ass. And luckily Tobias is a dedicated globetrotter with much understanding for wanderlust. So he agreed to my travel plans after all.

And now? Now, I’m about to explore the world. Not for the first time, though. Quite a while ago, I travelled the world in 80 days. But let me tell you, the whole journey was too much of a rush. Not chilled at all. This time I’m much less ambitious. I’ll just go wherever the road takes me. No plans, no intent in arriving.

So stay tuned & follow my footprints. Here my farewell photo with the fantastic FindPenguins people.
