First trip: Spring Mill State Park

Our maiden voyage has started off very nicely. We chose Indiana’s Spring Mill State Park as our first destination because it’s just down the road from my parents and not far from Jackie’s family.

The drive and set up were nearly perfect. Clear skies and easy traffic all the way. We didn’t expect great mileage but we were a bit too fixated on the instant readout on our shiny new F150… which is why I’m suggesting a first name for our camping rig. I’m proposing “Ten Mile”. I think it gives it a hint of coolness and street cred but also that’s just about what we’ll expect from our mileage 😬
The truck’s tank and my bladder last about the same amount of time so we’re good.

Her sister Susan & Charlie pulled their camper in shortly after we were all set up. They had an extra hose so we could reach the water tap and a couple extra leveling blocks. I’ve tried to buy or collect everything we needed but now have those on my shopping list.

Since we are just about 2 miles from my parents they stopped by to peek in our camper (didn’t want to navigate the steps up) and my sister and her hubby also checked in on our first voyage.

Dinner was fantastic. Jackie woke our appetites with a big pile of onions on the new Black Stone grill followed up with smash burgers. Add fresh salsa n chips and you couldn’t ask for a better camp meal. *note to self: photograph the food too :)

I would have preferred to leave the “puppies” home alone but Jackie thought they might as well come along on our shakedown trip. They travel well but I’d still suggest leaving them home. They were just a tiny bit in the way as we initially set up, then that need to take them out soon as anything moves can be frustrating. But then I can’t sleep past 6ish so again they’re not much of a bother.

Today we may head to Jeffersonville and walk the Ohio river.Read more
