    Historic Pirtis

    December 29, 2024 in Lithuania ⋅ ☁️ 2 °C

On the Pilaitė Manor, a half-hour bus ride from the center of Vilnius, you will find three historic bath houses: an old, a large and a small bath house for 2-4 people. Decorated with traces of history it feels like diving right into the history of Lithuanian sauna tradition, which developed mostly in the countryside.Read more

  • Very Bad Sauna

    January 3, 2025 in Lithuania ⋅ ⛅ 0 °C

Located in the “Very Bad Hotel” this sauna is also very bad - if you wish to make it so 😉. You can book it for additional costs for 2 hours and then everything is up to you: There is a small pool, sauna hats, fragrances and a shower. A sauna-troll watches if your sauna experience is bad enough to fit the hotel’s name.Read more

  • Very Sheltered Sauna

    January 6, 2025 in Lithuania ⋅ 🌫 -3 °C

Situated in an apartment formerly used as a bomb shelter, it feels very safe to use this sauna. 😉
You enter through a thick metal door and behind it you find a luxurious equipment apartment with sauna and whirlpool. The sauna easily heats up to 100°C and the shower cools you down a bit. No real cold water dipping though.Read more

  • Ivan is hitting my feet

    January 7, 2025 in Lithuania ⋅ 🌧 3 °C

For the second time I visited “Ivãnas Muša Gongã”, a modern sauna in Vilnius that offers open sauna sessions with a sauna master. This time both, the small very hot sauna and the large sauna in the attic were open. Both whirlpools and both ice baths, as well as the bar offered refreshments between the sauna sessions. In the beginning there were 2 hours of individual sauna from 4pm to 6pm, then the sauna guide began her ritual in the large sauna - equipped with a new stove for the new year: The first round with salt aroma steam, the second with peeling salt and sauna whisks. After 4 and a half hours my Lithuanian sauna adventure ended with a very hot steam and two sauna whisks hitting my feet.Read more
