      Sintra

      September 27, 2017 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

More touristicing this time we took the train to Sintra, a world heritage sight, to the north west of Lisbon, to see the Nacional Palacio de Sintra and Palacio de Pena. We also walked up to the Moorish Castle ruins, my feet are killing me, boating shoes were not the best idea! But the palaces were gorgeous. The Sintra palace dates from 1147 with adaptations along the way the most distinctive feature being the two 33m high kitchen chimneys. The Pena Palace is distinctive because of its colours and towers outside and painted stucco on the ceilings inside. It is one of the finest examples of Portuguese Romanticism. Here are just a few photos. Sadly as Sintra is high up we could see the west coast and the fog that still appears to be lurking there so tomorrow's trip might be a grey one again☹️Read more
