Christchurch - Arthur's Pass

Roadside bakery stop for a pie was a must in Sheffield.
On the Journey to Arthur's Pass stopped at Kura Tāwhiti (Castle Hill) a signicant place for Ngāi Tahu. Walked amongst the limestone rocks that were formed from shells that accumulated on the seafloor and were then compressed over many years - until the collision of tectonic plates pushed the surrounding mountain ranges up. 30 million years ago, I would have been underwater.

Arrived in Arthurs Pass, strolled around township before checking into Arthur's Motel Lodge. We the embarked on a short 3 hour trek to Arthur's Lookout. Great views, lots of steps! At the end we tacked on the climb to Devils Punchbowl. Although there were many more steps up to the waterfall and I was cursing all the way...it was worth it!Read more
