  • Bay of Islands Cruise

    4 novembre 2025, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Lovely day on the water even though the sun was not out. From Paihia we cruised across to Russell Island then to Roberton Island (Twin Lagoon). Captain Cook landed once, offended the locals, shot a few...you know the drill. He did however draw some very accurate maps of the region. There's a lookout here named after him which we climbed to. Nice views! From here we went to Motu Kōkako (Hole in the Rock) through some rough waters... After that we had lunch on Urupukapuka ...Other Bay. Arrived back in Paihia in time to find a sports bar and watched the Melbourne Cup.En savoir plus

  • Christchurch

    8–9 nov. 2025, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Short stay in Christchurch...stepping stone to what we want to see in the south island.
Checked out the Riverside Market. I found a little gin bar. Enjoyed a couple of cocktails while Jeremy hung out at Chemist Wharehouse waiting for a prescription. Moved to a beer stall once Jeremy arrived. Strolled along the memorial wall before heading out to dinner.En savoir plus

  • Christchurch - Arthur's Pass

    9–10 nov. 2025, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Roadside bakery stop for a pie was a must in Sheffield.
On the Journey to Arthur's Pass stopped at Kura Tāwhiti (Castle Hill) a signicant place for Ngāi Tahu. Walked amongst the limestone rocks that were formed from shells that accumulated on the seafloor and were then compressed over many years - until the collision of tectonic plates pushed the surrounding mountain ranges up. 30 million years ago, I would have been underwater.

Arrived in Arthurs Pass, strolled around township before checking into Arthur's Motel Lodge. We the embarked on a short 3 hour trek to Arthur's Lookout. Great views, lots of steps! At the end we tacked on the climb to Devils Punchbowl. Although there were many more steps up to the waterfall and I was cursing all the way...it was worth it!
