  • Chilling out in Seville

    23 czerwca 2024, Hiszpania ⋅ ⛅ 36 °C

    21st June
Floor sanding and polishing in our apartment complex resulted in an extremely dusty apartment. Cleaning lady was meant to be coming in early so we headed out for coffee and pastry at nearby mercado. She looked like she had just arrived when we returned so headed out again.
We went for long walk about 10km along Rio Guadalquivir crossed to the other side and strolled back. Seville is a beautiful city! Dinner cooked by Jeremy - absolutely delicious - his anchovy dish... best one yet!
    22nd June
Very lazy morning...hunger the impetus for leaving the apartment. Following a stroll to Plaza de Santa Cruz we embarked on a bit of a tapas bar crawl. Hit four different ones, ordering food, not knowing exactly what we were ordering. Very hot out and about. Back to the apartment to cool down before heading out late to a Peruvian restaurant just outside our apartment complex.
    23rd June
    A bit slow moving...
Headed in the opposite direction today and ended up in Parque de Maria Luisa. Beautiful park with Plaza de España at the end. A Plaza with palatial buildings built in 1929 for Iberio-America Expo.
Dinner at a highly rated restaurant. Seating only about 18 people, the chefs cook in front of you and discuss dish before serving. Another lovely evening!

  • Day trip to Ronda

    24 czerwca 2024, Hiszpania ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Amazing jammed packed day! Left Seville around 8am travelling to Ronda for the day.
Ronda is a mountaintop city in Spain’s Malaga province that lies above El Tajo - a deep gorge that separates the city’s circa-15th-century new town from its old town, dating to Moorish rule. Puente Nuevo is a hug stone bridge spanning the gorge. Views of it and from it are spectacular.
We also visited La Casa del Rey Moro: a water mine. The mine was built in the 14th century to improve the defenses of Ronda.
    Arab Baths
    Mondragon Palace
Bullring of the Royal Calvary of Ronda
We also had a look around another mosque turned church, Iglesia de Santa Maria la Mayor. It has Renaissance and Baroque features, a great viewing deck and can access the roof space for close up views of stained glass.
Had dinner almost directly under Puente Nuevo before driving back to Seville.

  • Last day in Seville

    25 czerwca 2024, Hiszpania ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Tried to win 213 million Euros in the lottery, but I was not the sole winner, so I will be returning to Australia in the next couple of weeks.
Went over the bridge and wandered around Triana. Checked out ceramics that it is known for.
Headed to a few different tapas bars and basically just enjoyed the sunshine. 🌞

  • Seville to Alicante

    26 czerwca 2024, Hiszpania ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

Spent most of the day travelling between.
Arrived in Alicante to our beautiful accommodation, overlooking the beach.
Very happy to arrive and be welcomed to 'the lounge'. It was a bit like a frequent flyer lounge at the airport. Drinks and tapas available...just help yourself!
A stroll along Pde de Gomez was needed after sitting in the car all day. Then, back to the hotel balcony to watch the fireworks.

  • Castell de Santa Bàrbara

    27 czerwca 2024, Hiszpania ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

The Castle of Santa Bárbara is perched on top of Mount Benacantil. It looks higher and further away than it actually was. Although the 166-metre ascent is not an easy climb in the heat.
Castillo de Santa Bárbara is one of Spain’s largest mediaeval fortresses
providing great views of Alicante’s bay. It was built in the ninth century by the Arabs. In December 1248, the castle was captured by the troops of Alfonso, son of Ferdinand of Castile, later known as Alfonso X the Wise. In commemoration of the brilliant victory of St. Barbara’s Day, the fortress was named after St. Barbara. Lots of changing of hands and uses followed and the different areas atop show different century elements.

Walked down through the Santa Cruz neighbourhood passed beautiful houses. The Santa Cruz Chuch closed of course dates from the late 18th century and was built over the Ampolla Tower, one of the few remaining stretches of the old city walls. Then walked down the walls back to hotel.

Headed out for dinner at El Canto, tapas bar. So delicious and great atmosphere. Expecting queues we arrived 10 mins before 8pm opening. Glad we arrived when we did as 30+ people waiting by the time they rolled up their doors and a constant queue the whole night.

    Mid night fireworks again tonight.

  • Mar Menor, Murcia

    1–8 lip 2024, Hiszpania ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Unfortunately, my week with the Kinanes in Murcia is over, and I am currently at Alicante airport, awaiting my flight to London (via Munich) to begin my journey home.
This final week has been full of sunshine, relaxing by the pool, two more books read, mini golf, eating, drinking... Rob and I perfected the Paella, cooking it twice.
We visited Cartagena an area founded by the Carthaginians around 220 B.C., the city boomed during the Roman period. Among its many Roman ruins are a 1st-century B.C. theater which they have restored beautifully.
We went into Murcia... beautiful town that probably needed more time but visited the cathedral which was awesome.
Have just loved hanging out with family.
