    $130/person, includes camping
Gates open for camping Tuesday @ 8 am.
    -------------------
First night was a blast. The weather was cool, so no worries about leaving the birds outside. Music was great by all performers. Brent Jones was a surprise guest - and a double surprise for me. I went to public school with him. I never knew he had such a great voice though!

Night two started off great, with Phil Denault. A powerful voice, and more upbeat tunes. The downhill slide began when he brought his wife out for a kenny/dolly duet. Not that she couldn't sing, but too high pitched for country. They did a couple more and it did not get any better.

The evening headliner was Sylvie Rioux. She was a little person, with a wonderful, powerful voice, a great sense of humour, and a strong french accent. I could have handled it with most songs, but she did Crazy. Not a song that most people should even attempt. Makes me feel contempt. She could hit the high notes pretty well, but the accent threw it all off. Add in the overactive mosquitoes, and I called it an early night.

Saturday started off key with Bart Lynch, but improved by leaps and bounds when Stewart Irvine hit the stage. He brought the music up to the early 2000's with Alan Jackson and Sammy Kershaw. Great job!

The final act of the weekend was Yvan Petit, who has a lovely, rich voice, and absolutely nailed every song he sang. He mixed it up quite well, spanning the ages up to the 90's.

Camping was pretty great on the edge of the park, with lots of green space, playground, and splash pad. Just a short walk to the arena/food/bathrooms and concert area. They also did a shuttle 'bus' for those further away. They even had a few power spots available.

It was a fantastic weekend, with great weather, music, and friendly people. I'd definitely do this one again someday.

    -------------------------------------
Ragnar and Spidey were a big crowd pleaser at this year's festival. Many people stopped to talk and take pictures as we explored the vendors, and later when we stopped to eat. Food choices seemed slim, with extreme cultural flair. We ate hotdogs. The olives weren't the same as last year. The beer was cool, not cold - and it was only about noon.

We watched the Hastings Ukulele Band and the opening ceremonies, then discovered the remaining day time entertainment was on the street. Too hot for that, so we wandered down to the river, relaxed in the shade, ate ice cream, and I waded in to the water. Music resumed on the main stage at 4pm, but the idea of going back and baking my brain in the sun was too off putting. We packed up and called it a day. Returned to the boat, where it was 30°C, and realized we should have just stayed at the river.

2024 - No dogs allowed. Entry through a building. There was some debate whether the birds could come in, and they decided to allow us in the end.

Most cheesecake vendors were selling the same flavours, with one or two specialty cheesecakes here and there. Cheesecake was sold mostly in cupcake size, with prices ranging from $3.50-12.00. I bought a strawberry, a blueberry, and a lemon curd. The lemon curd was delicious!

Food trucks leaned toward extreme specialty - jamaican, pineapple juice out of a pineapple, carribean... A few mixed vendors selling assorted trinkets. A kids zone with bouncy castles and such.

    Outdoor Concert at 7pm.
Just the one band - House of Thunder. Like Alabama, Johnny Cash, and Jimmy Hendrix all rolled into one. A little weird, but good. They played just over 2 hours.

2024 - Only the movie on Friday night.

Saturday - We, William and I, thoroughly enjoyed the activities at Annandale House. The conservationists and reptile zoo people were very friendly and informative. The scavenger hunt throughout the house was a lot of fun, and the house itself was beautiful. Their current temporary exhibit was all about local history, with some lovely take-home postcard style info cards of Oxford County.

Downtown featured sidewalk sale style booths from local stores, along with a few travelling vendors. Almost all had a free gift of some sort, activities for kids, prize draws, and cornhole toss stations.

We spent about 4 hours exploring through the day, took a break, and then returned for the concert in the evening.

Tiegan Gayze has a bit of a Taylor Swift wannabe vibe. She has a few songs of her own and did a few cover songs.

Andrew Hyatt played a good set, though a lot of his music was not really country. His stories between songs were fairly entertaining.

    -----

2024 - Enjoyed the festival overall. The musicians were more a group of 20 or so who performed in various combinations throughout the weekend, along with a couple of headliners for the evening shows. A lot of repetition.

Our campsite was as far from the stage as it could be, and still had good sound for the most part. I would prefer something closer to the stage next time, to enjoy the music more from the campsite, and not have to carry lawn chairs to the stage.

Only 3 food vendors and one swag vendor present.

No picnic tables or fire pits.

A good deal for me camping on my own. A bit pricey for two or more.

The races are held annually in February, drawing teams and mushers from Alaska, Quebec, Manitoba, Ontario and the North Eastern and Central States. We are grateful for our close-knit community that has been consistently supportive of the race for the past 25 years and encourages our spectators and visitors to use the services this great little town has to offer.
