Portimao is a major fishing port, and an investment has been made in making it an attractive cruise port as well.
Our relaxing tour began with a drive around the city on our way to Alvor. Alvor is a delightful little fishing village with a history that extends back to the Classical Era. We went on a walking tour through its charming streets and had free time on our own.
Our next stop was the Quinta Dos Vales winery. First we had a walking tour of the property, its unique sculpture garden and vineyards. Then the winery manager conducted a tour of the winery. We have been on many of these but still were able to learn a lot from this most knowledgeable man. Finally we were led into the private Tasting Room of the Manor House for a tasting of their award winning red, white, rose, and port type wines accompanied by delicious Portuguese specialties.
