Day 26 Fri- Waterfront adventure!
June 18, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C
Sleep the best sleep for days I had taken a Melatonin Tab which technically shouldn’t work straight away…it usually takes a couple of weeks to build up in your system…but maybe still enough in my system to kick it off again..or maybe just so tired my busy relaxed enough to sleep….didn’t even here the trains being shunted next to our motel….
I made Brekky Rell this morning….no kettle and my emersion coil I bought with us won’t work properly here as on,y 110V not 240v Canada and the US are some of the main countries manukau the north and South America and the America islands that use 110v….it did work but took about an hour and half ha ha….in the mean time I boiled it in the microwave…which in all honestly makes the water have a scum,,,but better than none….
We had 2 Croissants from our hotel yesterday we didn’t eat…. 2 eggs, some milk, some salmon 🍣 cappers and fresh lemon …so I made scrambled eggs in the microwave had with fresh Salmon, capers and fresh lemon juice with the scrambled eggs on the croissants…yum very tasty….Last night I made a fresh salad 🥗had it with left overs from my meals I bought hime from out nights out…all tasted fine…luck I bought a chopping board, a sharp knife 🔪 and extra hits yo use in rooms like this that have nothing we can us…had no fork so used our metal spoons I bought at the cheap shop…improvisation is the key to travel with unknown rooms and what they have in them…I do hope no more with out a kettle ….
After Brekky I did my photo download took 2 hrs, but done then headed to Thunder Bay Marina Park….driving through town it felt so unloved and unkept…but getting to the Marina Park what a breath of fresh air….Amazing modern buildings….quirky modern art pieces…a big pond the apparently becomes an ice skating rink in winter and a paddle pool in summer,.,but not open yet…the beautiful ,old building where we had a lovely morning tea…The Windy Shores Cafe was set in a beautiful old Railway building all done up…. built in 1905…the coffee shop was tastefully decorated sitting inside an interior design shop….we sat outside in the sun…. with but it lived up to its name very Windy…so moved inside to watch the world go by…
From here we wandered around the Park area seeing so many different aspects of it ….
It is such a really great set out area…With different marinas 3 in total….Memorial are with 5 restored canons,,,, the feature is the Paddle pool in the middle… The whole area is known as Prince Arthur’s Landing on Thunder Bay… Which faces right onto Lake Superior…apparently costing a $100 million worth…. At one stage we crossed a massive covered walkway over the Rail line and Hwy below yo head to a Pergoda ….it as it turned out was the tourist info centre where a lovely young lady was helping us with maps, places to visit and even called a local Brewery to see if they do lunch…..she did give us many Brochures one of which had the red Lion Smoke House it looked great for lunch…..
We thought we had been to all aspects of it, but discovered the Spirit Park designed by the local aboriginal First Nations people….A very peaceful area…where people where walking their dogs, having lunch and enjoying it leave,..in the centre of the area was an amazingly designed wooden Amphitheatre… looked very clever in it share and design..
From this vantage point you could see over the distant ranges that reminded me a bit of the Cockburn Ranges in the Kimberly just the shape of them…Also this city has a massive port that looks like mainly for grains….near us at our motel and out from the Marina….from this area I could also see remains if an old pier and a pier that must have been used but doesn’t look so now..I was quite intact…the main feature we could see was Sleeping Giant Island… yep looking out over the lake to the Long Island it dies resemble a big sleeping giant…
While here we had been in contact with Tim apparently he and Jess had set off to see a large natural gorge…. They were about to cross a bridge when a German women ahead of them warned them that there was a bear at the end of the bridge coming there way…both Tim and Jess were very cautious…Tim even getting ready fir his Bear Spray…The German guy with the women was very blase’ about it all even suggesting they continue on their walk… it after the scare Tim and Jess decided to head to Thunder Bay…safer…before they had spotted the bear they had come across a heap of bear poo so they knew bears were about…but didn’t quite expect such a close encounter….The only reason the bear didn’t come at them was the bridge it had to get over to them…they felt it deterred it…good thing I would say….They finally arrived and met us at the Marina…. when they finally did arrived we decided to head to the Red Loin Smoke House a good choice…I even got to try their local specialty a Fish Taco….very yummy and one was more than enough…
After lunch Tim and Jess headed to our AMAZING 😻 Motel….I still haven’t heard their take in it yet…We headed to find Fort William Historical Park…somehow or rather we hit sure tracked John put into the Navvy a different spot and we ended up in the First Nationals area where we found the cheapest fuel yet $181.9 sadly John had only filled up 10mins before at $222.9 as it had hot up to $239.9 in some areas…as we neared this area every fuel stn was getting cheaper and cheaper….funny thing at the cheapest one was about 50 cars lined up to get their cheap fuel…. But all along this area of the Indigenous peoples area was cheap fuel….plus little dingers all, along the Hwy selling smoked in block…🤔😩🥲…they also had their own huge police stun right where Navvy had sent us..,Anyway we were heading to Fort William…so reset her and off we went…The back drop for this area was a massive mountain behind the town area with massive huge cliff faces…we were Hoi g to try and see this closer but the raid we took didn’t end up there,
Eventually we found Fort William but sadly couldn’t see the fort just the visitors centre and the camp ground set up there…While there I really had to make a call of nature and like every where we have been the only loos are those plastic portable ones like out of the Movie Kenny if you have seen it…great movie if you haven’t with Shane Jacobson….anyway while there I saw the hugest Mossie…I kept telling Tim and Jess they were getting bigger the further west we hit and this sucker was huge..,I put my finger next to it to prove how big it is… I would say 2.5-3 cm across and 2 length… a big bloke indeed….Our time had come to an end nit being able to see Firt William was disappointing…it was still open but takes hours to go around and not being able to even see it we headed back…but we had been up and around so many streets seeing different homes and living standard we had, had our fill and needed a rest… Tim has booked an Italian Restaurant for Dinner tonight…see how we go…
While driving around I had a msg from my friend Paige one of bye ladies I met in the US…. Her and her husband and son were driving on a main road to pick up their daughter from summer camp…when the car in front of the, had a tree fall on it. Trapped inside the car was a dad driving, a mum and 2 sons….the tree had landed directly on the fathers chest and head…he was alive when they reached him…someone had to break open the back of the car with a golf stick to free the boys….an hour or so after the accident we all the ladies and myself had a msg that the father had sadly laser away…it was a freak accident that could have been my friend and her family but praise the Lord it wasn’t…what an absolutely awful thing to witness fir everyone…especially for the family left with this devastation to now grieve….
At 7.30pm we headed out to Dinner at the Italian…must be a popular spot because it was packed..we had to wait for our table to be vacated first…so sat at the bar ordered our drinks…I ordered some cocktail thing behind the bar in a large glass canister…..not realising it’s main flavours were orange…I am not a fan of orange 🍊 cocktails Campari not the nicest and very very strong….so as I do much to Jess’s amazement and concern I added it to Prosecco to tone it down…yes stronger in a way, but tasted better…We ordered a Pizza 🍕 knowing it cause us both tummy grief 😩so had the gaviscon ready 😂😂😂 but to our surprise it didn’t…bonus…Tim and Jess had different pasta dishes…looked very nice…Jess ordered a takeaway Tiramisu and wow was it huge….looked lovely…
Our day had come to an end…I did read in one of the magazines I licked up about here..we could see the Northern Lights from here…but you would need to be up after midnight probably more like 2am…and there is no way this little bunny would be getting up then…so guess I won’t see the northern lights…I saw the sun finally go down around 11 pm ish…
