    Meteor Crater Arizona

    February 23, 2003 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

Pretty huge hole in the ground from a meteor nearly 1200m wide and 170m deep. All that's left is a lump of nickel that would fit in a wheel barrow and some other fragments. The rest was vaporised. Happened 50,000 years ago. Quite sobering...a little visitor centre displays the main fragment and has a number of exhibits about meteors and the like. Well worth the visit!Read more
