    On our second day we had a very strenuous hike in front of us in order to search for the Horned Guan. We left the Hotel at 4am and started the hike up Atitlán Volcano after a short drive. The hike would take us up another 2000 feet in elevation and about 3 hours of hiking to the location where we could hope for the Guan. About an hour in to the hike, still in darkness we tried for our other target of the day. The Fulvous Owl. After a short while a pair of them flew right in and started singing loudly above our heads. Unfortunately things were no about to work out that nicely with the Horned Guan. After a full day on the volcano, with lots of effort and aching legs invested, we had to return to the Hotel without seeing the Horned Guan. Just after arriving at elevation we had heard one nearby, but to our disappointment it flew off down the slope without giving us a glimpse. Just before returning to civilization we came across a Northern (Guatemalan) Pygmy Owl with a very active flock surrounding it which we full heartedly enjoyed. Czytaj więcej
