    Santa Maria Navarrese is a pretty coastal and tourist town, frazione ('district') of the municipality of Baunei, in the province of Nuoro, Sardinia. It is located at about 150 km north of Cagliari and 160 km south of Olbia, in the middle of the Gulf of Arbatax.

    We probably should have stayed here rather than Porto Frailis as everything is very accessible on foot.    Читать далее

    A steep climb out of Santa Maria Navarrese leads to Baunei. It is a commune (municipality) in the Province of Nuoro in Sardegna and sits at an elevation of 480m .

    The village itself has kept its authentic feel - no fancy resorts here, just genuine Sardinian mountain life with a few small restaurants serving local specialties.

    It is notable for being the location of the multi-day Selvaggio Blu coastal trek. It is also a Blue Zone location where the inhabitants have a longer life expectancy than average.    Читать далее

    We motored south on the Dovesesto from Cala Gonone to Cala Goloritze (a UNESCO world heritage site). Spectacular. All of these beaches are only accessible by boat or foot (long hike). Brilliant staff and a breathtaking experience.

    Seville embodies the essence of southern Spain, where Arabic architecture meets Spanish flair. The city centre is a maze of narrow lanes opening onto surprising plazas, with orange trees lining the streets and their fruit scenting the air. The Gothic cathedral, the largest in the world, stands next to La Giralda, the Moorish tower that serves as the city's icon.
    In the old Jewish quarter of Santa Cruz, whitewashed houses sport intricate iron balconies, and hidden patios offer refuge from the intense Andalusian heat. The Real Alcázar palace shows off centuries of architectural evolution, from Islamic arches to Mudéjar tilework and Renaissance additions. Along the Guadalquivir River, the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower) watches over modern life in this ancient city.
    Sevillanos take their traditions seriously - flamenco still pulses through neighbourhood tablaos, tapas bars serve classic bites like espinacas con garbanzos and pescaíto frito, and the April Fair fills the streets with polka-dotted dresses and horse carriages. The city moves to its own rhythm, with long lunches stretching into afternoon siestas, and dinners starting well after sunset.     After its completion in the early 16th century, Seville Cathedral supplanted Hagia Sophia as the largest cathedral in the world, a title the Byzantine church had held for a thousand years. The Gothic section alone has a length of 126 m (413 ft), a width of 76 m (249 ft), and its maximum height in the center of the transept is 42 m (138 ft). The total height of the Giralda tower from the ground to the weather vane is 104.5 m (342 ft 10 in).

    Seville Cathedral was the site of the baptism of Infante Juan of Aragon in 1478, only son of the Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. Its royal chapel holds the remains of the city's conqueror, Ferdinand III of Castile, his son and heir, Alfonso the Wise, and their descendant, King Peter the Cruel. The funerary monuments for cardinals Juan de Cervantes and Pedro González de Mendoza are located among its chapels. Christopher Columbus and his son Diego are also buried in the cathedral.     The square is large (170 meters in diameter) and semi-elliptical in shape, which symbolizes Spain 's embrace of its former American territories, and looks towards the Guadalquivir river , as a route to follow towards America . 

    Its total area is approximately 50,000 square meters, of which 19,000 are built-up and the remaining 31,000 are free space. It is bordered by a canal that runs for 515 m and is crossed by four bridges. The buildings that surround the square are structured in a central building, wings with intermediate buildings that compensate for an excessive length, and towers at the ends. This plan responds very closely to the formal scheme of the type of Palladian villa with curved wings, such as the Villa Badoer by Fratta Polesine or Villa Trissino in Meledo, shown by the Italian architect Andrea Palladio in his Four Books of Architecture , which Aníbal González knew.

    The construction is made of exposed brick and has extensive ceramic decoration . The roofs of the plaza gallery have wooden coffered ceilings that are supported by marble columns. The backs of the benches and some lampposts are made of wrought iron.

    The medallions with effigies of illustrious Spaniards, the marble columns and the coffered ceilings give the whole a Renaissance atmosphere. According to the writings of Aníbal González, his inspiration for designing the square had been the Spanish Renaissance, the Sevillian architect contributing new modern elements. The two towers that flank the square, which provide a baroque -style atmosphere , are 74 meters high.     Setas de Sevilla

    Setas de Sevilla ("Mushrooms of Seville") or Las Setas ("The Mushrooms"), initially titled Metropol Parasol, is a large, predominantly wood structure located at La Encarnación square in the old quarter of Seville. It accommodates a traditional market, restaurants, a performance square, archaeological museum — and 'rooftop' terrace with a panoramic view of Seville's old city.

    Selected from 65 submissions in a city-sponsored competition, the structure was designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer, was completed in April 2011, and is roughly 150 by 70 metres (490 by 230 ft) with an approximate height of 26 metres (85 ft).    Читать далее
