    I trekked out to Hố Hữu Tiệp (Huu Tiep Lake) to see the remnants of an American B-52 bomber shot down in 1972 and left preserved as a symbol of victory for Vietnam (only the silhouette is visible at night). Then I wandered back to the old quarter of Hanoi. I walked past the Temple of the Jade Mountain looking for somewhere to eat. Luckily, eateries start popping up along the sidewalk, each with only a few tables (tiny, brightly colored plastic tables with stools). I sat down at one and was promptly served what I think was bún riêu (“crab rice noodles”).
