    Enshrined here are the remains of Taira no Masakado. He carried out political reform in the Kanto region during the Heian period, fighting against oppressors with great courage and audacity that reflects the samurai spirit (he was a precursor to the samurai). Taira no Masakado was killed in 940, and his decapitated head was put on display in Kyoto. According to legend, his head flew all the way back to Kanto as a vengeful spirit before settling here.Read more
