For the record, that beautiful purple flower—Nootka lupine—is actually an introduced species in Iceland from North America. It spread more extensively than intended, displacing native flora in areas.

Because of its ability to fix nitrogen, grow quickly, and persist during droughts, Nootka lupine was introduced throughout Iceland to help prevent the erosion of loose, volcanic soil and accelerate land reclamation and reforestation.
