Boldt Castle - Is located on Heart Island in the Saint Lawrence River. Originally a private mansion built for American millionaire George Boldt, Proprietor of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, it is now maintained by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority. In 1900, George Boldt launched an ambitious construction campaign to build a huge masonry structure, one of the largest private homes in the United States at the time. Fun factoids: (*) located on Heart Island and only accessible by boat, (*) Boldt’s never actually lived in the Castle because his wife passed away before completion, then he passed away in 1904 - construction stopped, (*) Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired Heart Island and the nearby yacht house in 1977,[3]for one dollar, under the agreement that all revenues obtained from the castle operation would be applied towards restoration, (*) It is still being renovated and the top 2 floors are not complete, and (*) They host weddings at the Castle.Læs mere
