FP update 8/27 Citadel Halifax, NS

As we continued our journey we landed in a new Province today - Nova Scotia. More specifically the capital, Halifax. It is the most populous municipality of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, and the most populous municipality in Atlantic Canada.

We visited another Citadel. Since a citadel is a fortress that protects a city, the fact we have come across a few in Canada would make sense. The country spent many years under British plus French rule and both of those countries feared the colonists to the south would take land.

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site - It was built to Protect a new settlement. The hill where the first Halifax Citadel was built offered the best vantage point to protect the town. Fund facts about the fortress: (*) was built to protect the navy base, (*) never saw any combat. No shots were ever fired! Did its job discouraging attacks, (*) there is a Noon Gun fired every day (except Christmas). A tradition that has continued every day since at least 1865, and (*) actual changing of the guard every hour.
