    Fort Morgan is located on Mobile Point, near the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach which are two places we would recommend for a visit 👍🏻

    The fort a Third System masonry type fort built between 1819 and 1833. The fort was named after Revolutionary War Hero Daniel Morgan. Standing guard where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, the fort played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. Used intermittently through the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II.

    Fort Morgan was the last Confederate stronghold on Mobile Bay.

    Battery Duportail is one of several structures added to historic Fort Morgan after the Spanish-American War (1898) to bolster defenses. The huge concrete structures were designed to hold heavy defensive guns aimed into the waters of the Gulf Coast.

    Union Admiral David Farragut led his fleet to charge the bay, famously saying "Damn the torpedoes!".
