Sint Maarten

The island of Saint Martin is divided into the French side (Saint Martin) and the Dutch side (Sint Maarten) and is about 90 miles east of the British Virgin Islands. We arrived a few days ago and checked into the country at a marine hardware store with the clerk. Things are pretty laid back. This is a significant milestone for us as we reached a point where we no longer have to sail upwind against the prevailing trade winds that almost always blow from the east or southeast. Now we can sail north or south between islands that are relatively close to each other. This is the heart of cruising.Read more
