Konungariket Sverige

Was unusually excited when I found out I'd be joining R to a conference in Sweden..
Had a rough start to the trip but we were determined to discover this obviously pleasant environment. You can't not when everyone is so nice and welcoming!

    Flight in

    June 8, 2019 in Sweden ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Having just flown into windy Fr from Ma, it was tough to repack for a different climate so fast and head straight back to the airport within less than 24 hours. Already exhausted to the point of fainting, and with an unusually sick toddler, the addition of mean security guards giving us a hard time over simple things we'd done a dozen times was just too much. Beyond that our flights were delayed and thereafter a follow up to the super windy and slightly scary landings and take offs. Once our feet were on Swedish land however, all the nausea and frustration went away as we were greeted warmly and given a room with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever encountered in my life! #dontthinkitsikeathoughRead more

Rye-based crisp bread loved with cheese or anything really, any time of the day!
Would have loved to bring back the big packets as amusing souvenirs for family but they'd surely get beaten to crumbs during the trip.Read more

And boy do they love liquorice, introducing the salty kind: Saltlakrits. I guess I'm lucky I'm in the venn "why yes, I do like liquorice!" intersecting "why yes, I do like sweet-salty mixtures!" category of humankind to appreciate the flavour!Read more

The Park Inn is an enjoyable stay with nice breakfasts and a super convenient location inside a mall.. perfect for a mama alone with a baby or toddler bc anything we'd need is no further than a short, weatherproof walk away..
Our room with a view is quite comfortable with enough room for everything we need, including just some free space for the boy to lay down and do his colouring.

Being around cafes alot meant I got to observe casual social interactions often enough to notice how oddly fun they are here.. Fika is a loved thing here, and I think I've seen it in different ways. And more importantly, what I saw isn't what I expected! Maybe my particular location has something to do with it?
Not only was it of a gender reversal of roles but even an age one too... It was the men who sat down for a coffee with a pretty peice of pastry. And it was the huddle of grandmothers and their walking sticks who were rushing to get their beers and wines. And not a lot of younger folk at all..
Lots of babies though! I'm not sure I've seen so many strollers in such a short time. Even those bicycle-attached kid caravan type things. And all those kids have some sort of candy they were enjoying. Seriously! Also a known thing about these here parts of the world is their parental leave from work.. See photo for some envious details.. but as such, "latte papas" everywhere!

    Oh and everyone has tattoos!!

Ps. No photos taken of the folk I observed for their own privacy!

One of the things I only got to try on the last day.. originally called Green Cake, but renamed bc the royal princesses loved it so much!
Not seemingly offered everywhere, the slice I got to try was at a cafe in the mall.. Such dainty cakes with such a manly logo!

Also- in purchasing a tea or coffee, you are free to refill as needed! A lovely honor code here that is enjoyed and respected.. I believe under the moderate amount idea of "".
