Yes but it's asphalt not tar and ponds not pits ... all sorts of creatures got trapped in the black stuff up to 38,000 years ago.

Amazed at how many wind farms there are. It seems that although the US politicians are mostly in denial about climate change at least the Californians are getting on with it!

A large sprawling city of 1.5 million people. Very hot (45+) in the summer and very dry - you can feel yourself desiccating as you walk along! Fortunately it was only in the upper 30s for us.

Went to see thousands of bats emerging from the famous Phoenix bat cave but Google Maps led us to the wrong side of the canal ....

Evidence of ealier occupation in this area but this partly restored ruin was developed over many decades about 1000 years ago.

The lighter area about 1/3 in from the left and 1/3 down is a house with two windows - the black holes.

Went for a walk around "old town" Flagstaff (founded 1876) and captured some lovely images of the town. Height above sea level 7000 feet; population 70,320 plus us two.

Sadly all the river has been diverted to provide Flagstaff with water so the habitat is changing.

Very true but what about the Astronaut figure and American flag on the bottom right????
Noel ThomasAs I recall, the ejecta flanks of the Barringer crater have been used for astronaut training and equipment tests, since Project Apollo in the 1960’s. Due to the geological composition of the crater it has provided an ideal site for exploration tests, including sampling and drilling using hand held tools, including the coring drill.
