  • Back to Pokhara

    October 13, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Heading back to Pokhara after 5 days of Nepali culture, traditional cuisine and a glimpse of how the rural Nepali live.

We got to experience 1st hand local traffic manoeuvres and a traffic jam of monumental proportions; a huge thunderstorm and beautiful scenery in rural Nepal.Read more

  • A really long day ...

    October 12, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Today's trip was filled with drama 😐.

First a stop at a local Royal Enfield spares dealer; then Bullet (Mama's bike) decided it no longer needed its' silencer, and sent it hurtling into the air, so we had a stop for a quick repair; then we sat for over 3 hours in the midday heat due to broken down vehicles on the pass 😨

Then we had to make our way through the traffic which had backed up .....

As if we hadn't had enough challenges for the day, our last 3 hours on the road was accompanied a huge storm ... 😫

We finally got in at 22h15 after taking 13 hours to travel 172km 😆

  • Chitwan National Park

    October 11, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

So .... After hearing that Nepal is the only place where the tiger numbers have doubled we set out to find at least 1 ........ No such luck, all we saw was some tiger paw prints 🤣

We did see deer, birds, a squirrel, a monitor lizard, monkeys and wild boar.

The jungle itself is thick and lush with the tallest trees I have ever seen, most in excess of 30m and elephant grass over 4m tall! In most places the vegitation is so thick, you wouldn't be able to see an elephant even if it was 3m away 🙄

Coming from Africa, where we are spoilt with both many types of animals as well and large numbers of each, I wouldn't call this a safari, but rather a jungle drive 😆

  • Afternoon walk around Bandipur

    October 9, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Mama (our guide and mechanic) took us on a walk around the village.

Here kids are still kids and play in the streets. Skipping, kicking balls and having fun. No iPhones, iPads, X-boxes or PlayStations here.

The woman are seriously hard working and do everything from physically hauling sand, stone and wood to carrying huge baskets of feed for animals 😣

Young girls are tasked with collecting water from the mountain spring, again the male children are nowhere to be seen 😪

  • Old Inn - Bandipur

    October 9, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Spent our first night on the tour at the Old In in Bandipur, a hilltop settlement in Nepal.
Restoration and conservation of this traditional Newari Town House required keeping the low ceilings and the overall sense of proportion and scale.

Because of its preserved, old time cultural atmosphere, Bandipur has increasingly been visited by foreign tourists.

  • Pokhara to Bandipur

    October 9, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

So happy I was in the support vehicle 😁. Lots of space, comfy seats, water when ever I wanted ... As opposed to a small padded seat, dust, bumps and full sun and probably some things I haven't thought of 😆Read more

  • Pokhara

    October 7, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

So much like Phuket, but without the beach 😀.

Walked down to the lake and then walked around the shopping area.

  • The road to Pokhara

    October 6, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Collected at 09h00 for our transfer to Pokhara. Once again the roads proved a serious challenge with potholes the size of wheelbarrows and places where cars, trucks, buses, humans and animals were sharing the same 10m of road at the same time 😨

Loads of trucks travelling into Kathmandu, with produce from India.

In only took us 5 hours to travel 180km 😆

  • Kathmandu

    October 4, 2018 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Arrived safe and sound .... But had to wait on the plane for 1/2 hour while some or other dignitary was ushered off the plane and into a Merc with the obligatory "Blue Light" brigade surrounding his vehicle...

However, the trip from the airport to the hotel (7km) took nearly 2 hours 😨 Don't think I'll complain about peak hour traffic in Joburg or the potholes ever again 😀

At least our electrical installations aren't as bad as these here ...... YET 😆
