The day started crazy cuz Tod got stranded in Baltimore and so I left a car at the airport and I waved a courtesy van away so the whole bus wouldn't see me duck taping the key under the car. Hopefully he finds it ☺. And i'm all plugged in and ready for my flight across the pond!Read more

  • Big Ben

    July 24, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Trish and I left the working stiffs home to rest and we did the tourist walk around downtown London. We started at Trafalgar Square and listened to Rick Steve's audio tour hitting the highlights down to Westminster Abbey which we hit just in time for an organ recital. It was incredible to sit and look at the inside of the church while listening to the organ music. It could have been 1000 years ago.Read more

  • Our new bikes and our new home

    July 26, 2016 in France ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Well, our cruiser bikes are super comfortable and we made it to our first stop. I was going to take a picture of our first french baguette, but we ate it in record time because it was so good. Chenenceau is beautiful and had a colorful history including being used to smuggle resistance fighters across the river during WWII.Read more

  • Cheverny and Chaumont

    July 27, 2016 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We saw two very different chateaux today. Cheverny reminded us of Downton Abbey complete with a large group of hound dogs ready to go hunting. Chaumont was like a Disneyland castle with a drawbridge and winding staircases. Both had gorgeous gardens.Read more

    July 28, 2016 in France ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

This morning we were in heavy mist just long enough to get all covered up in our rain gear (thanks Dad!) and then voila, it dried up. We decided against another castle today and instead had a leisurely lunch in yet another cute village. The last picture is the front door of the airbnb we stayed in last night. It was a little house in the back with kittens ama chickens and a very nice family.Read more

  • C'est finis!

    July 28, 2016 in France ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We finished our trip with a shorter day ride along the Loire. We were on the designated bike trail all day, so it was fun to say "Bonjour" to other cyclists. Our quads got a workout because there were more hills today. We both decided what was especially fun about this trip was that there were so many different surprises around every turn - a beautiful field, an old fortress, a country farmhouse, a forest, a little village. We turned the bikes in and had an easy flight back to London where Ross and Kate were waiting for us. We finished roughly 100 miles and we were pleased with ourselves for accomplishing our adventure!Read more

  • British Museum

    July 29, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We slept in and had English tea. We said good bye to Ross, who's flying to California for work and will be seeing Elly and James. We walked a half mile to the British Museum. Kate joined us after work. Most of London's museums are free and unlike the Louvre or the Met, they have lots of museums that each feature different types of collections. It's nice because no one place is overwhelming.Read more

  • Afternoon Stroll

    July 30, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

This afternoon we strolled through the Victoria and Albert Museum. I loved the Chihuly blown glass. We tried on some medieval wear and saw one of Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks. We then stopped in at Harrods Department Store. We finished our day with an evensong service at St. Paul's Cathedral. Along the way we ran into Ed's old school and the building where they filmed the Gringotts scenes in Harry Potter.Read more

  • British Library

    July 31, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We started our day at a yoga class in a Lululemon store and it felt great to get stretched out. Then we tried to wrap our heads around all the treasures at the British Library - the Magna Carta, a Gospel of John from 250AD, Galileo's book about the moon, Mozart's composition book, the earliest copy of Beowulf, and lots more. For dinner, Kate, Trish and I had our first British meal and we enjoyed it all - bangers, mash, bubbles and squeak, chicken pie, sticky toffee pudding, but the best of all was the ginger pudding!Read more
