    Monk’s Trail to Wat Pha Lat

    I recently learned about a trail that starts at the base of Doi Suthep and leads to an atmospheric temple set in the jungle. Known as the Monk's Trail, it is used by monks to travel between temples in the area. When I saw the photographs, I knew I had to check it out myself.

    We started our first full day in Chiang Mai with a rideshare to what I thought was the trailhead. Unfortunately, I had chosen the wrong endpoint and we had to walk a ways up a steep road to get to the trailhead. Once we got there, we started on what was a relatively easy uphill hike to Wat Pha Lat. The trail was marked by banners with elephant motifs on them. It was a lovely precursor to our exploration of Wat Pha Lat itself.    Read more
