Preface

Jeff and I periodically visit Maui when our diving coach friend Dennis hosts a meet. Dennis usually lets us stay at his second home, and he usually lends us one of his card to use, so these weekend trips are very affordable for us!

This short inter-island flight was memorable for all the wrong reasons. A woman who initially sat by the emergency exit responded with "maybe" when queried by the flight attendants about whether she was willing to assist in an emergency. Needless to say, she was moved to another seat. Later on in the flight, she answered a phone call.

Jeff spent most of Saturday at a diving competition. I spent most of the day wandering around Kīhei. It was an unusually clear day and I could see the top of Haleakalā.

Olowatu Petroglyphs

Our first stop on our day of sightseeing was the Olowatu Petroglyphs, also known as Puʻu Kilea. To get there, we turned off the main highway leading to Lahaina. The petroglyphs were on a large rocky outcrop and they mostly comprised human figures.

Lāhainā

Jeff and I wandered around some of the historical sights around Lāhainā. We visited the Wo Hing Museum, which documents the lives of Chinese immigrants. After that, we made our way to the Jodo Mission which features a pagoda and a large Buddha statue. It was really hot that day.Read more

Kāʻanapali

Our final stop of the day was Kāʻanapali Beach. Jeff dived off a rock while I hung out in a shady area and made friends with a pet pig.
