  • Naritasan Shinshoji

    6 Temmuz 2025, Japonya ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

After snacking on street food, we climbed a flight of stairs to the side of the main entrance to Naritasan Shinshoji to the Grand Hall and three story pagoda before going into Naritasan Park, which has its own entry.

After walking through the park, we reentered Naritasan Shinshoji and admited the lanterns which had been put up for Narita Gion. It is a pity we weren't there past sundown as, based on past experience, the lanterns would have looked spectacular at night.

  • Narita Gion Part II

    6 Temmuz 2025, Japonya ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

While we were inside Naritasan Shinshoji, we heard a lot of noise coming from the Omotesando, so we made a beeline there to find out what was going on. Just as we arrived at the Omotesando, one yamahoko departed up the road, and we stayed and watched the people at a second yamahoko perform a dance. It was very hot and humid on this third day of the festival, and it was obvious many of the participants were over it. Many of them were simply (and unenthusiastically) going through the motions, and I can't say I blame them. One participant, in particular stood out - a teenage boy who was dressed in a black and orange vest when the other members of his troupe were in blue. The expression on his face was priceless!

When this yamahoko finished their dance, they departed up the Omotesando, and we followed behind. Further up, we saw one mobile shrine heading downhill carried by men in white, and then another yamahoko going downhill.

After that, we ate some more street food, including a chocolate covered banana, and then we made our way back to Narita Airport for a much needed shower and some more substantial food at the lounge.
