    29. mar.–3. apr. 2024, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We love it here. Only $20 per night for full power and water hook up. Not used to having these in a NP. Even a laundry.

Did the Tall Trees walk this morning. Continued on to the top of Walker Falls and then to Horseshoe Fall. A fantastic walk. The forest is amazing, makes for a really enjoyable stroll.

In the afternoon we strolled up to the base of Walker Falls. Another charming walk. As it's wheelchair friendly very easy

Still in Mt Feild NP. Drove up to Lake Dobson. A very narrow, windy gravel road. Climbing up for about 16ks
up into the Alpine region. Was a little bit nippy. But we soon warmed up, walking around the lake. Magnificent. There are ski runs up here. Would be lovely to see when it's snowing. Unfortunately, we don't have the gear.

It's much nicer here than at Cradle Mt. Which is far too crowded these days.

    31. mar.–5. apr. 2024, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

This is a great drive from Mt Feild. The veiws along the way are worth the drive on their own. Graham strutted his stuff on an interesting statue on the roadside.

We were amazed by Gordon Dam. Like nothing we had ever seen before. It's a bit of a mixed feeling thing. Between the awe of the structure and how it felt wrong to build it in such a magnificent wild environment.Læs mere

Our last walk at Mt Feild NP. Has been a fantastic visit. There are so many great walks. If you are into a bit more serious hikin, plenty of those as well.

We ended up staying one extra night. As it was raining the day we were going to leave. Drove into New Norfolk to shop. Was easier than doing it with the van in tow.Læs mere

  • Bruny Island

    3.–7. apr. 2024, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Hopped across to Bruny Is for a few days.

Visited the Lighthouse and Kingfisher Beach today.

The views from the light house of the rugged coastline are fantastic. A bit of a hike up, but worth it.

The beaches on Bruny are pristine. We had Kingfisher to ourselves...except for hundreds of tiny crabs. Had to be careful where we walked. Set up our picnic lunch on the beach. A very special place to have our lunch.

    5. april 2024, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Cloudy is another of the beautiful beaches here. A little more busy than Kingfisher. Had a great walk along the headland then along the beach. The loo has a one way window. You can veiw the beach while taking a seat but people can't see in.

We then then followed an old forestry road over the mountains down to Adventure Bay. Another stunning beach. Visited the Berry farm while. No berries, but they do have a white wallaby and Peacock.

Had an early Wedding Anniversary dinner at the pub while we were on Bruny. Fantastic food. Mainly local produce. Definitely the place to eat.

We are currently in the Huon Valley for a few days. It's a very pretty camp site by the creek in Greeveston RSL grounds. A wonderful base to explore the area.

There are a range of wood carvings in the streets. Depicting locals for a bygone era. The stories of their lives are very amusing.

Found some amazing red toadstools growing by the creek.

It's our 29th Wedding Anniversary today. What a better way to celebrate than revisited Mt Wellington. We visited it on our honeymoon all those years ago.
Still has breathtaking veiws...or maybe that was just that it was really 🥶. At least no sleet like last time.

We had lunch at Lost Freight. I cafe made out of shipping containers part way up the Mountain.

What a great day. I have to say I love walking in the Alpine regions. Yes, it's cold. But it's so invigorating. I think Graham thought I had brain freeze. I was on such a high.
We only did the shorter walks. Waratah lookout, Arve Falls & Lake Osborne. As we don't have the fitness or gear to do anything bigger. Lake Osborne was the biggest about a 40min return. With a mean climb at the start. But totally worth it.Læs mere

    11. april 2024, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We drove to the bottom of SW Tassie today. A lovely drove along Cockle Creek. They say its as close to the edge of the world most people will get. It is the Southern most road you can drive in Australia. Next stop Antarctica.

It's National Park now. But was logged in the past. There are still interesting relics around from then. The very short walk to the Right Whale statue that remembers all the whales that were hunted almost to extinction in the area.

Plus, I found some more very interesting fungi.

Spent a lazy Sunday visiting Hobart.

  • Tasmin Peninsula

    16. april 2024, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Wow... we were treated to some spectacular coastline today. Plus beautiful green countryside. One of the greenest areas we have been to in Tassie.
Picked up the best pumpkin I have seen in years. Whipped it up into a big pot of soup. Yum.

Our favourite spot had to be the Remarkable Cave. Was worth the 120 steps down and back up again.

The Tasmin Arch and Devils Kitchen also were great. There was a tour boat checking out Tasmin Arch. Made for interesting photos.

We gave Port Arthur a miss as we had been before.

Fantastic free camp. Just out of Swansea of the East Coast. The little jetty Graham is fishing from is just in front of the van. He did catch one tiny fish. Yes, he did let it go.

Love that it's called Swan Reach. I think it's the first waterway we have seen with no black swans on it. Can't have everything I guess.

The spiky bridge was interesting. Plus some great buildings in town.

Just overnighting here. On our way to Freycinet.
Lots of very expensive boats here. A great little harbour.
Our Qld neighbours gifted us some fish they caught this afternoon. I ask him to give Graham fishing lessons 😆
Looks like a fire in the mountains. A way in the distance. But can smell the smoke every now and then when the wind shifts around.

  • Wineglass Bay cruise

    21. april 2024, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

What a perfect day to do a cruise. The sun was out. The conditions perfect.

The sea cliff are spectacular from the water. As it was calm, we could get up nice and close.

Visited the seals, which was a treat. Mainly males and last years babies. Always fun to watch them play in the water. We also spotted dolphins on the way home. No matter how often we see these wonderful sea mammals, it is always a delight.

Stopped for lunch at Wineglass Bay. A very pretty spot. Much better coming around by boat than walking overland.

A great day out. The boat was excellent. Hardly anyone on it. The bonus of visiting in the off-season. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the region.

    22. april 2024, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We were thinking of doing the Wineglass Bay lookout walk while we were here. But after doing the cruise and seeing it from the water we decided we didn't need to. It's much easier on the boat that a 4k walk up 400+ steps... then back down them. My knee thanked me.

There are lots of other beautiful short walks. The Cape Tourville Lighthouse is definitely the best.It was a very easy walk. With breathtaking veiws. You could get a peck of Wineglass. Plus, the seal rocks. We also explored Sleepy Bay, with some interesting rocks. A bit of a hike down and back. Not to bad. Honeymoon beach, just a short stroll from the car park. Finally, Friendly Beach. Like many beaches here, it has fine, white, squeaky sand.
We also seemed to be drawn to the ice cream/takeaway shop at Coles Bay. Were you could sit outside with views of the bay and mountains ringing it. 3 days of ice creams and one of fish & chips. Maybe we should have done the Wineglass Bay lookout walk after all.

Had planned to do the walk to the gorge at Douglas Aspley National Park today. Got as far as the Aspley waterhole and there were no more signs or obvious track to continue on.

Headed into Bicheno instead. It's a very nice beach/bay. Especially on a lovely sunny day. Checked out the blowhole. Walked through town. Picked up some bargains at a store closing down. Nabbed a pair of Piping Hot Sandals for $1.99. Plus lots of other handy items really cheap.

Found a great picnic spot on the rocks overlooking the bay.

I was very hard to pull ourselves away from this beautiful spot on the Bay of Fires.

Must admit we didn't do a lot here just sat around and enjoyed the view.

We did go up to The Gardens up the other end of the Bay of Fires. Explored the Starfish Garden at Cosy Corner. Did a walk to a Waterfall out the back of St Helens.

The National Park was doing a slow burn on the other side if the highway from us. That keep us amused for a couple of days.

The dairy was great. Picked up some excellent blue. Have afternoon tea by the log fire ... very nice.
They have a robotic milking system here. The cows come in to be milked when they want. It operates 24/7.

Another great walk today. A little longer and rougher in places than St Columba Falls yesterday.

They mined for tin and harvest timber in the area. Old relics scattered around. A weir just up from the falls.

We would have liked to continue to drive up to the Blue Tiers. A local resident had pipes running across the track pumping water from the creek. Being the nice people we are we didn't run over them.

Also spotted some interesting fungi on our walk.
