Hay... Bishops House

This magnificent old home housed the Anglican Bishops in the area from 1880. It also had beautiful gardens, including a hidden rose garden.
The house is in great condition, but unfortunately, it is missing it original furniture as it was used as a hostel for a number of years. The garden are slowly being bought back, but it is a huge task as they had become very overgrown.Read more

Narrandera - Sand Mine Camp

Another lovely camp on the Murrumbidgee. So peaceful. We were the only ones here.
Finally had a nice evening to sit out by a fire and enjoy a wine or 2.

We finally found the town we stayed at on our made dash back from Tassie a few years ago. At the start of covid lockdowns, we were kicked out of Tassie and had to race to get back to Qld. We could never remember the town we stopped in NSW after getting off the boat that morning.

We had a couple of relaxing days in Yass. Washed the car and gave the van a clean before heading to Canberra today.

Canberra - Capital Hill

Our first afternoon saw us drop in to say hi to Albo... but apparently he's in the UK.
We did have a nice time checking out his work place. Very nice.

Floriade

Well, we have finally made it to Floriade. We spent a glorious morning strolling the gardens. The theme this year was tulips. So beautiful planted in mass. The underplanting of petunias and other flowers made it even more spectacular.
I think we were lucky to go today. Expecting strong winds over the next 2 days. That will probably curse havoc with the blooms.Read more

Canberra-War Memorial

We spent an interesting morning at the war memorial. A very fitting reminder of those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Lest we forget.

Mount Ainslie Lookout

Afte our visit to the War Memorial, we drove up to the Mount Ainslie Lookout. A fantastic view of Canberra spread out before us. Didn't stay long as it was blowing a gale, and just a little bit chilly 🥶Read more

Doing the art galleries

This morning was cultural time.
Off to the National Portrait Gallery and The National Art Gallery.
We are definitely uncultured. A bit too much abstract and strange modern stuff for our liking.
TravelerLove the owl ceramic ware. 🤩🤩. I’m not really into the weird and ultra modern either I’m afraid 😜

Lanyon Homestead

After the art galleries this morning, we needed something a little more laid back.
A nice lunch and a stroll around Lanyon Homestead was much more to our liking. This respectfully restored 1850's Homestead is still a working farm. As well as a venue for many local events.Read more

Mount Stromlo Observatory

Our first stop today... on visit lookout day 😄. A beautiful sunny day with a light wind.
What an interesting place. Many of the original observatory buildings were lost in the 2003 bushfires. Their empty shells are scattered around. The views are fabulous. As with all the sites we visit in Canberra, there are beautiful trees and tasteful landscaping. We were amused by the gate with all the padlocks. No one's going to open it.Read more

National Arboretum - Dairy Hill Lookout

What a stunning place for our picnic. 360° Veiws that go on forever.
The Arboretum spreads out around this lookout. Canberra does a great job with its green spaces.
TravelerAnother beautiful spot with a spectacular view. Canberra is a lovely city.

Black Mountain

It was interesting to check out the telstra tower. There seems to be not many places in Canberra that you can't spot it. It's shown up in lots of my photos.
It is currently closed for refurbishment. But still in use.Read more

Old Parliament House

The visit to Old Parliament House was most enjoyable. I do remember visiting when I was little.
You could have a good prowl around. Lots of friendly staff, with lots of interesting info.
Plus, heaps of fun interactive and dress up things for the younger visitors.Read more

Old Parliament House Gardens

After exploring Old Parliament house, we popped next door for a stroll around the gardens.
Most of the roses weren't in bloom yet... we seem to be out of luck with roses this trip.
The wisteria walk was spectacular. The best I have seen. It is a perfect place for a gentle stroll.Read more

Last stop for today. Another lovely building. I have been told it housed polies originally.
We checked out the current display on the building of the railway across the Nullarbor.

Question Time

Back to Parliament House today. We picked up tickets for question time. I have to say I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed it.
Sorry, there are no photos. Not allowed to take anything in. Even had to hand over my very basic smart watch.
Only one minister got kicked out for being a very naughty. The opposition picked on the Minister for communication for the Optis 000 deaths.Read more

High Court

Our second last stop in Canberra.
We were hoping to see pop into a High Court sitting, but the one slated for today was cancelled.
Was still an amazing building to visit. My favourite in Canberra. There are excellent staff in each courtroom, with information about how they are run.Read more

National Carillon

Our last place to visit. So beautiful, to sit in the sun and listen to the music flowing from the bells in this magnificent building. A real treat.

Belanglo State Forest

We are currently free camping in the Bangalow State Forest. It's better known for the Iven Milant backpacker murders.
There is a small memorial to his victims.
For all the sadness associated with this area, it's quite a nice place to camp.

Is a lovely historic town. Full of beautiful old buildings and an interesting history. It has reinvented itself into a very tasteful tourist destination.
We enjoyed the visit to the old court house. It is a great place to learn the local history.Read more

Fitzroy Falls

It's so beautiful here in the Southern Highlands. Had a nice, easy stroll to the fall lookout. The view down the valley bordered by cliffs is spectacular. But the real reason for visiting is the fall. The drop of 80m makes it a magnificent view. We then continued along the east rim to the next lookout. Which gave us a view of the other smaller fall.Read more

Belmore Falls
