      USA to Madrid & Pamplona

      June 5 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 91 °F

I have had great luck so far on day 1. Zero people in line at TSA at my departure airport and when I when through customs in Madrid they look at my passport, stamped it and said welcome. They didn’t ask me a thing. I also never had to scan my boarding pass to get in the plane to Madrid. My face scan told them everything they needed to just know.

I lucked out with great seat mates. Twin sisters joining their Spanish mother in Spain for vacation and a college student heading oversees to visit family. We all made a pact if one of us was going to the bathroom we would all go 😆 and the inside seat person got to go first.

Delta is going to get an email. Myself and the other girl in my row upgraded to what was a bulkhead seat using sky miles. It was not a bulkhead seat. So we bought “better” seats that were worse. They also didn’t seam to have air conditioning in the center of the plane. The back was cool but we were sweaty hot. The special meal attached to my ticked was somehow not communicated to the flight attendants either. I am lucky I had friendly seat mates.

I took a bus to the main train station in Madrid and after waiting an hour to see if I could move my ticket to an earlier time it turns out there wasn’t an earlier time. With severe hours to kill I took a groggy walk around Madrid. Got some euros from the bank and found a coffee shop.

Next stop Pamplona for an overnight before heading to Saint Jean Pied de Port tomorrow. I had thought I’d go walking around Old Town Pamplona. It at this rate I think I’m going to walk to my Albergue (Hostel) maybe eat some dinner and go to bed early.

Spent so far today €5 euros on a café con leche and croissant plus €1 tip, €3.25 in a coke (between the caffeine in the coke and the coffee nothing is helping) and €1 on a fancy bathroom that was super clean and was playing ethereal music.

Also there are SO MANY TAXIS in Madrid.
