    Santa María Church is in the centre of the old city on central Plaça de la Constitució. It has an ornate 19th-century organ,
    Next to the church is the Placa de la Constitucia housing the Town Hall which has a Renaissance facade and a clock donated by the island’s first British governor, Richard Kane.
    The impressive Menorca Museum displays art and exhibits on the island's history.
    The elegant Casa Mercadel was one of the homes owned by a noble Menorcan family and was built in on the site of an ancient castle that overlooked the harbour, now housing a cultural centre.

    Further up the square we walked to the fish market in the Carmelite Cloisters which has been converted to a covered market selling everything from fruit and veg to shoes and local food specialities. The Tapas is amazing.
    The Museum of Menorca is in the old Franciscan monastery which was built in the baroque style at the end of the 17th century but confiscated in 1835.
    The Carrer de Sant Roc is beautiful with some of the oldest houses owned by the noble families of Menorca leading to the gateway of Sant Roc which was once part of the city wall.

    We visited the Cloister del Carme Mercat and the Tre Cavalli Nag Arnoldi Statue.
    We passed a family bakery with local savoury and sweet pastries. I bought a spinach and tomato wholemeal pasty, palmier puff pastry and custard filled pastry. So delicious.Read more
