Home of the famous 1915 COO-EE March. 25 young men started out from Gilgandra on the Coo-ee March to recruit Young Australians to sign up to defend the mother country back in World War I.
As they marched through the towns they would scream out the coo-ee call for others to join them. By the time they reached Sydney their numbers had swollen to over 260 men.
Similar coo-ee marches were started around the country and another large hit Adelaide the following year.Read more
